  • This dual appointment position’s roles are broken into two areas. Approximately 65% of duties lie in strength and conditioning and 35% in athletic training (subject to fluctuations as assigned by supervisor).

    The Head Strength and Conditioning Coach is responsible for establishing and maintaining a strength and conditioning program for all sports, with the three major goals of improving athletic performance, reducing athletic injuries, and teaching lifelong fitness and movement skills. This position also works with the Director of Sports Medicine and Performance in maintaining the fitness center, overseeing assigned student employees, and establishing policies, plans, and procedures for the safe and professional operation of the facility.

    The Head Strength and Conditioning Coach devises training plans according to sound scientific principles, supervises training sessions, evaluates athletes, and maintains athlete records. The Head Strength and Conditioning Coach meets regularly with sport coaches to determine areas of improvement that athletes need to focus. The Head Strength and Conditioning Coach works in cooperation with the sports medicine staff and adheres to all activity restrictions/modification set forth.

    As a Certified Athletic Trainer, this position provides a full-range of athletic training health care services for NCAA Division II athletic teams. This includes, but is not limited to the prevention, evaluation, assessment, management, and treatment of injuries / illnesses, short-term and long-term rehabilitation of injuries, education and counseling of student-athletes, and related health care administration. Works in cooperation with and under the medical supervision of the Team Physician(s).

    This is a 10 month contract term July 20 - May 19.

    Essential Functions:
  • Design and implement strength training and conditioning programs in‐season, off‐season, and pre‐season for all school‐sanctioned athletic programs in a manner that reflects research‐driven practices.
  • Work in cooperation with the sports medicine or athletic training staff in the rehabilitation and strengthening of injured athletes.
  • Facilitate a collaborative relationship among sport coaches, sports medicine, and the strength and conditioning staff.
  • Design and implement policies and procedures for the strength and conditioning program in accordance with the NSCA Strength and Conditioning Professional Standards Guidelines.
  • Develop systems for tracking athlete attendance and athlete progress in conjunction with the sport coaches
  • Conduct an annual needs‐analysis for each sport team in conjunction with the sport coach and the team’s athletic trainer at the conclusion of each sport season.
  • Annually conduct and review a departmental risk management plan.
  • Determine and reinforce expectations for athlete conduct that mirror the University’s values and expectations.
  • Perform as a certified athletic trainer in the prevention, evaluation, assessment, rehabilitation, management, treatment, and treatment of injuries and illnesses.
  • Provide athletic training health care services for team practices and on campus contests.
  • Make medical referrals and in consultation with supervising team physician, determine the medical clearance of student-athletes.
  • Document and effectively communicate with coaches regarding all medical restrictions for participation
  • Provide emergency care under the policies and procedures of the Office of Athletic Training and the Plan of Care with the supervising team physician(s).
  • Maintain appropriate student-athlete medical records.
  • Properly document all student-athlete injuries and illnesses.
  • Share in the responsibilities of athletic training facility and fitness center maintenance and upkeep.
  • Maintain proper certifications/licensure as required by the State of New Jersey.
  • Abide by the National Athletic Trainers’ Association Code of Ethics.
  • Assist with administrative responsibilities including, but not limited to, management and processing of insurance claims, review of policies and procedures, supervision of student-workers / interns, and other responsibilities as assigned.
  • Integrate the core values of respect, compassion, integrity, justice, and service in all aspects of interaction.
  • Perform other duties as assigned.
Secondary Responsibilities:
  • Coordinate with Student Life offices to hold novice level instruction events for non-athlete members of the campus community including students, faculty and staff.
  • Travel with teams and provide athletic training health care services.
  • Work with coaches and student-athletes to develop appropriate training regiments.
  • Work with athletes to reintroduce strength and conditioning activities post injury.
  • Provide Athletic Training health care services for Georgian Court University camps/clinics (during contract period).
  • Assist with facilitation of pre-participation physical exams.
  • Assist in the implementation of institutional and NCAA drug-testing and education.
  • Serve as a Clinical Preceptor for Athletic Training Students.
Qualifications:
  • Bachelor’s Degree required.
  • Certified Athletic Trainer by the Board of Certification.
  • Licensed as an Athletic Trainer by the New Jersey Board of Medical Examiners.
  • Certification in CPR/AED for the Professional Rescuer.
  • Certification in Strength and Conditioning.
  • Experience and/or expertise in strength and conditioning programming for college athletes.
  • A strong working knowledge and teaching skills in analysis and techniques of strength training.
  • Experience in a collegiate strength and conditioning / athletic training environment.
  • Strong motivational abilities.
  • Evidence of ability to interact positively with student athletes, colleagues, and the public.
  • Knowledge of NCAA regulations.
  • Effective communication and interpersonal skills.
  • Strong organizational skills.
  • Strong computer skills and familiarity with electronic medical records.
  • Experience with Microsoft Office Suite.
  • Prior experience with neurocognitive and vestibular testing and rehabilitation.
  • Instructor Certification in CPR/AED/First Aid.
  • Maintain licensures / certifications in good standing through the completion of continuing education.
  • Availability and willingness to travel as needed.
