Essential Job Functions

UW-Green Bay is embarking on a new model for Career Services focused on providing intrusive, supportive career advising to students within our four Colleges that will lead to more intentional connections and success.  Career Advisors are responsible for building strong, intentional relationships and advising students in a variety of career development areas including self-discovery and reflection, understanding the world of work, experiential learning, advanced education, and job and internship searching.

Career Advisors are responsible for designing engaging and meaningful workshops and programs, coordinating networking opportunities, introducing and connecting students to work-based learning experiences, and developing intentional relationships with employers, faculty, and staff members. Under this new model, Career Advisors will lead and support the efforts of the Career Services Office directly in one of the four Colleges at UW-Green Bay to provide services tailored to specific majors. This position reports to the Director of Career Services and the Dean of the College for which they support. Career Advisors will strive to create a welcoming, equitable, and inclusive work environment.

What You'll Do

This position includes the following responsibilities:

  • Educates or advises students and recent alumni individually or in groups through various mediums about career exploration, self-assessment, skills, materials development, and career decisions.
  • Develops and delivers career development programming and resource materials across various mediums to provide education to students.
  • Responds to questions and provides information regarding student services, policies, procedures, and employment preparation.
  • May identify and maintain a professional network of employers or other stakeholders to facilitate career exploration and employment opportunities for students.
  • Participates in the campus-wide career services community, providing input to leadership regarding the development of advising, recruitment, and co/curricular programs offered by the school/college/unit.
  • Builds intentional relationships with students, faculty members, and employers to introduce and connect students to work-based learning experiences.

Qualifications

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS:

  • Bachelor's Degree at time of application
  • Commitment to creating diverse, equitable, and inclusive experiences in a student-centered environment
  • Demonstrated ability to build meaningful, quality relationships with a commitment to student success
  • Strong attention to detail, interpersonal, customer service and organizational skills
  • Effective oral and written communication skills and comfortability with public speaking
  • Working knowledge of Microsoft Office
  • Ability to manage multiple tasks while maintaining flexibility and willingness to work collaboratively as part of a team in a fast-paced environment

PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS:

  • Master's Degree with two years of experience working in education, recruiting or related experience
  • Experience with resume writing, interviewing techniques, internship and job search strategies
  • Experience in student program development and implementation; planning and/or facilitating seminars and workshops
  • Experience working with students from underrepresented groups
  • Knowledge of Peoplesoft, Navigate, and Handshake or other online recruiting systems
  • Bilingual in Spanish, Hmong, Oneida, or Somali

Conditions of Appointment

Some travel is required for necessary meetings, workshops, conferences, etc. Occasional evening and/or weekend work is expected and will be assigned by supervisor as needed. Travel to all campus locations (Marinette, Manitowoc, Sheboygan) may be required.

Positions are full-time Academic Staff appointments.  These positions may have the option to work on-campus or a hybrid schedule subject to approved telecommuting request.  Official transcripts of the highest degree achieved will be required of finalist(s). A criminal conviction investigation will be conducted on the finalist(s). In compliance with the Wisconsin Fair Employment Act, the University does not discriminate on the basis of arrest or conviction record.

Compensation and Benefits

Minimum salary of $44,000.

This position is exempt from the overtime provisions of the Fair Labor Standards Act (FLSA).

Benefit Details

The UW System provides an excellent benefits package to meet the diverse needs of its employees. This includes several health insurance options, with annual deductibles as low as $250/individual and $500/family. Our benefits package also includes dental, vision, several life insurance options, AD&D and Accident insurance and Flexible Spending and Health Savings Accounts. We participate in the Wisconsin Retirement System (WRS), where employer contributions begin immediately and employees are fully vested after 5 years of service. The UW System also provides supplemental retirement savings programs including a 403(b) and Deferred Compensation.

In addition, employees receive several types of paid leave benefits, which are prorated for employees working less than 100%. This includes 9 legal holidays, 36 hours of personal holiday and between 96-130 hours of sick leave annually. Employees earn 13-27 days of vacation each year, depending on years of service and employment type.
