Job Summary

CU Boulder encourages applications for a Material Handler II ! This role will provide material handling support for the Distribution Center. This position is responsible for purchasing for Facilities Management Operations, assisting with the receiving, staging, delivery and/or pick-up of goods and materials in a timely manner, processing day to day stock fulfillment and customer requisitions, and maintaining an organized stock room and warehouse. This position will assist CDL and CMV drivers with deliveries.

The Distribution Center (DC) provides the university with procurement, disposal, and logistic services, as well as processing and distribution of written communications, to enable the campus to pursue its mission of excellence in education, research, and community service! What Your Key Responsibilities Will Be

FM Stores Purchasing
  • Purchase inventory and special order items in accordance with University and State procurement rules.
  • Decide on appropriate vendors using State and University procurement rules, keeping in mind customer needs, lead times, and price.
  • Supervise and adjust re-order levels in consultation with Supervisor, which will require proficiency in departmental and other software applications.
FM Stores Order Processing
  • Receives materials into the Stores warehouse and verifies accuracy of inventory/special orders.
  • Stocks shelves with inventory items.
  • Processes customer inventory requests and provides customer service for FM Operations.
  • Stage materials for delivery.
  • Performs cycle counts of inventory.
  • Maintains a clean and organized store room.
  • Delivers and picks up materials as needed.
Distribution/Materials Handling
  • Safely and efficiently operate materials handling equipment to prepare items for daily distribution to university departments.
  • Appropriately load trucks for transport and assists CDL/CMV drivers in unloading shipments at campus customer locations.
  • Deliver materials using fleet vehicles as appropriate.
  • Independently make adjustments while on route with an eye towards customer service and within departmental parameters.
Other Duties
  • Operate plastic wrap baler and sort and move pallets to the pallet dumpster.
  • Sweep and organize warehouse.
  • Clean and wash interior and exterior of vehicles.
  • Deliver packages to campus departments.
Advise supervisor or lead worker of safety incidents, near misses and all potential hazards. Maintains safe work practices, participates in department safety meetings and completes all assigned trainings.

  • This full time, in-person position’s work schedule is Monday - Friday from 7:30 am - 4:00 pm.

What We Require
  • Two years of experience which includes purchasing, warehousing, handling, shipping, receiving, storing, inventory, and/or distribution of goods.
  • Appropriate education will substitute for the required experience on a year-for-year basis.
  • Must possess a valid State of Colorado driver's license.
  • Must be a Colorado resident to apply.

  • Capable of working in a fast paced environment while providing excellent customer service skills.

  • Knowledge of the University of Colorado Boulder campus.
  • Experience with CU Marketplace, Assetworks, and SC Logic software programs, or other similar procurement systems.
