Mission

VCU’s College of Health Professions, consisting of nine departments and a center, includes U.S. News and World Report top-ranked programs with physical therapy and occupational therapy ranked in the top 20, rehabilitation counseling ranked number six, healthcare management ranked third, and the nurse anesthesia program ranked number one in the nation. As of Fall 2022, the College’s student body included nearly 1,200 individuals, with over 300 undergraduates and more than 800 graduate and certificate students. The College has an accomplished and highly active group of 200-plus faculty and staff who embrace and respect individuals with diverse backgrounds, identities, and lived experiences. The College cultivates transformational research and innovation through collaborative partnerships across the University as well as with external stakeholders. Since 2018, CHP research awards are up 96% and yielded $5.2 million dollars in new awards in FY22.

Summary

The nationally-ranked VCU College of Health Professions seeks culturally and professionally diverse candidates to apply for the Assistant Director of Marketing. Reporting to the Director of Communications and Marketing, the Assistant Director of Marketing will be responsible for supporting the strategic goals of the college and advancing its reputation externally.

Position Responsibilities

Collaborate
  • Reports to the Director of Communications and Marketing
  • Works closely with the Director to create and maintain the College-wide marketing and communication strategy serving many publics
  • Collaborates with the Director on established and new opportunities for paid, owned, earned and shared media
  • Establishes internal rapport with faculty and staff across the College to support their departments, programs, courses and goals
  • Represents the College externally at communications meetings at the university level, with other university programs, collaborators and partners as needed
  • Responds to other marketing and communications related duties as assigned
  • Manage ongoing relationships with media buyers / sponsors / vendors related to marketing
Manage
  • Support the College’s overall marketing and communication efforts
  • Create mini-marketing campaigns tailored to support the goals of entities within the College
  • Develop and manage a content strategy content across all College social and digital media channels
  • Make digital and print marketing materials that support campaigns and ad hoc requests
  • Oversee all design, copywriting and creative materials representing the College
  • Ensure brand compliance of all College marketing and communication materials with university policies, procedures and regulators
  • Maintain a consistent communication style across all College marketing and communication materials
  • Manage promotional materials/swag inventory and distribution through promotions and events
Measure
  • Sets SMART marketing and communication goals to ensure outcomes align with the College’s overall goals
  • Measures and reports on campaign success across all marketing efforts
  • Monitors real-time marketing analytics on digital channels to suggest any modifications to campaigns
  • Evaluates marketing metrics at the end of campaigns and makes recommendations based on outcomes
Required Qualifications
  • Bachelor’s degree in mass communications, business and marketing or a related field
  • 3 to 5 years of experience related to developing, managing, evaluating marketing efforts at an organization with many audiences
  • Experience managing multiple social media accounts across platforms with a proven record of engagement success
  • Excellent oral and written communication skills
  • Ability to effectively work with multiple stakeholders including the College and University administration, faculty, students, and the MCV Foundation
  • Demonstrated experience working in and fostering a diverse faculty, staff, and student environment or commitment to do so as a staff member at VCU
  • Technological proficiency required in Microsoft Office Suite and with Google products such as Gmail and Google Drive
  • Experience with marketing and communication tools such as social media management software, Adobe Creative Cloud and other design applications, copywriting and copyediting software, email marketing software, and campaign tracking programs
  • Must be self-motivated, strategic, creative, entrepreneurial, and energetic
  • Be able to problem-solve using sound judgment and professional discretion
  • Have demonstrated strong work ethic and time management skills
  • Be an adaptive leader
Preferred Qualifications
  • Master’s degree in mass communications, MBA with a marketing focus, or a related field or a combination of experience at a level that equates to an advanced degree
  • 5 to 7 years of experience in healthcare or higher education marketing and communications leadership
  • Strong graphic design experience for print and digital media
  • Experience managing internal and external constituents, stakeholders, and vendors
  • Strong photography / videography / media production experience
  • Knowledge of communications style requirements such as AP style, accessible writing, and DEI writing style guides
  • Strong experience with marketing and communication tools like Adobe Creative Suite


Salary Range: Commensurate with experience, starting at $65,000
