Job Description:

Director of Operations of the Media Arts Complex (MAC)

The Director of the MAC is a senior leader in CAS and a member of the Dean’s Cabinet. They oversee the studio and media operations of the MAC and support a student-forward academic media space that includes studios and equipment associated with Media Arts. The goal is to elevate student opportunities, raise the level and visibility of student media operations, and professionalize such experiences. This position will support CAS students and non-CAS students (i.e. all Fairfield Students) who will have access to professional media spaces. In short, the MAC will be home to CAS media majors and provide expanded opportunities for all students interested in media production. These spaces will include academic spaces (and in collaboration, shared spaces) in the Media Center, the University’s radio station, and the Mirror.

This Includes:
  • Train and mentor students in media production and use of MAC resources.

  • Co-Advise Student Production Units across all delivery systems (digital news, news, podcasts, radio, streaming, etc.) on both technical matters and ensuring the broadest access.

  • Assist CAS faculty in using MAC spaces in their pedagogy and as teaching laboratories.

  • Ensure that the MAC student experience feels like a media professional experience to ensure students have industry-forward hands-on experiences.

  • Manage day-to-day needs of facilities—including submitting, monitoring, and coordinating work orders, and monitor and repairing equipment, and planning with the Director of the Communication and Media Arts Institute and its faculty equipment upgrades and refreshes and budget submissions.

  • Oversee budgets and academic space planning (labs, classrooms, and student-focused spaces within MAC).

  • Oversee and supervise staff running the CAS equipment checkout system (CAGE) and oversight of student workers.

  • Monitor, uphold, and develop safety protocols following the institution’s policies.

  • Oversee lighting design, operations, production facilities, and all equipment (hardware and software) and train students and faculty on these tools.

  • Manage inventories, throughways, and storage spaces.

  • Process, distribute, and store incoming purchased materials.

  • Fabricate, design, and source materials for projects as needed.

  • Recognize problems and inefficiencies in all MAC areas and propose solutions for better flow and improved student experiences.

  • Monitor and manage schedules and sign-out spaces for all MAC areas

  • Work closely with the Dean and Director of the Communication and Media Arts Institute to strategize needs.

  • Supervise, train, and provide work direction to students to ensure they can successfully complete academic media assignments or student production projects.

  • Other duties as assigned.
