Job Summary:

The Waisman Center is dedicated to the advancement of knowledge about human development, developmental disabilities, and neurodegenerative diseases throughout the lifespan. One of 15 centers of its kind in the United States, the Waisman Center encompasses laboratories for biomedical and behavioral research, a brain imaging center, and a clinical biomanufacturing facility for the production of pharmaceuticals for early stage human clinical trials. In addition to its research efforts, the Center provides an array of services to people with developmental disabilities, offers numerous educational and outreach programs to young children and their families, and trains scientists and clinicians who will serve our nation in the future.

This position will be within the Waisman Center University Center for Excellence in Developmental Disabilities (UCEDD). The mission of the UCEDD is to support the full inclusion and self-determination of people with developmental disabilities and their families through: development of personnel qualified to provide services in the health, education and social service systems; provision of services, technical assistance and the dissemination of information; and the contribution of new knowledge about the causes and prevention of developmental disabilities, the impact of disabilities on individuals and families, and the efficacy of assessment, intervention and support methods.

The Autism and Developmental Disabilities (A&DD) Clinic Director is a staff member of the Developmental Disabilities and Genetics Clinical Services operational unit within the University Center for Excellence in Developmental Disabilities (UCEDD). Clinics at the Waisman Center are operated in partnership with UW Health.

Responsibilities:

(95%) Autism & Developmental Disabilities Director
- Conduct comprehensive diagnostic evaluations to individuals within the A&DD Clinic
- Supervise, mentor, and support professional growth for Autism and Developmental Disabilities (A&DD) Clinic staff and assist in recruitment efforts.
- Serve as or support the Psychology Training Coordinator for WI LEND and other UCEDD training programs, serving as a mentor and/or clinical preceptor for psychology or other trainees in clinics.
- Mentor and train new staff to develop professional competency in the diagnostic and cognitive testing tools used in the Waisman Center Clinics.
- Collaborate with hospital leadership, clinic coordinator, clinic leadership, and other stakeholders to strengthen the Waisman Center Clinic by developing and implementing strategic plans for evidence-based practices and implementing UCEDD principles of care (interdisciplinary, patient and family-centered, strengths-based).
- Opportunities to participate in local and state training activities, lecture in university courses on topics related to developmental disabilities, ASD, family issues, maternal and child public health.
- Foster coordinated planning and programming with others in the Waisman Center UCEDD and Intellectual and Developmental Disabilities Research Center (IDDRC), including opportunities for support in securing small and large project funding and dissemination of research and model programs.

(5%) Other Duties to Support Core Functions of the UCEDD
- Participate in activities to support the core functions (conducting training, model services, research, evaluation and dissemination) of the UCEDD and the IDDRC in accomplishing the goals and mission of each center.

Education:

Required
PhD
Doctoral degree in Clinical or School Psychology required

Qualifications:

Applicants must have the following required experiences and knowledge:
- A minimum of five years as a practicing psychologist working with individuals with intellectual and developmental disabilities and their families. Two years of specialized training or experience. This specialized training may be pre-doctoral or post-doctoral but must be intensive (20 hours per week or more) and focused on this client population.
- Clinical experience working with children and youth with autism spectrum disorder (ASD) and other developmental disabilities and their families, including experience providing diagnostic evaluations.
- Assessment skills in the areas of cognitive, adaptive behavior and socio-emotional/behavioral functioning. Substantial experience with autism specific diagnostic measures such as the Autism Diagnostic Observation Schedule, Second Edition (ADOS-2).
- Demonstrated skill and experience in leading and managing committees, project teams, and workgroups.
- Demonstrated skill and experience in supervising staff and psychology trainees.

Well-qualified applicants will have the following preferred experience:
- Demonstrated track record of planning, implementing and publishing research related to ASD
- Prior experience in the planning, writing and editing of grant and/or contract proposals.
- Prior experience as an independent research investigator.
- Prior experience as a graduate or staff/faculty in a Maternal and Child Health (MCH) funded training program such as LEND (Leadership Education in Neurodevelopmental Disabilities).

License/Certification:

PSY - Psychologist - State Licensure
Must be licensed as a Psychologist in the State of Wisconsin or eligible to practice in the State of Wisconsin within one year of hire.

Must maintain and renew licensure in the State of Wisconsin as a Psychologist.

Occasional evening and weekend work may be required.
