University of Vermont (UVM) Extension is recruiting for an exciting career opportunity as an Extension Assistant Professor. The successful candidate will join us in growing and building our research and programming capacity in Community and Economic Development.

This is a union represented 12-month position, with a base appointment of 0.80 FTE with the opportunity to increase to 1.0 FTE through grants.

This role will focus on conducting applied research, education, and outreach with local communities, leaders, and entrepreneurs, resulting in social, environmental, and economic benefit to stakeholders.

The disciplinary emphasis is open and could focus on one or two of the following topics, not listed in order of preference: business viability, community engagement, entrepreneurship, fostering welcoming communities, housing development, land use planning, outdoor recreation, public infrastructure financing, risk management, rural migration, social and economic justice, tourism, workforce development, and other programmatic emphases.

We are especially interested in candidates who can grow and lead a statewide extension program based on sustaining and strengthening Vermont communities with an emphasis on southwestern Vermont (Bennington and Rutland Counties).

The successful candidate will provide educational outreach, technical assistance, and program leadership that builds citizens’ capacity to identify goals and develop systems to implement those goals. We specifically desire an emphasis on addressing the experiences of underrepresented individuals.

The position requires technical expertise in program development, implementation, and evaluation. The position requires expertise in applied research and outreach program management, as well as the ability to work collaboratively and communicate effectively with a wide range of audiences.

Duties:

Build collaborations with stakeholders such as farmers, entrepreneurs, local government officials, educators, state and federal agency partners, regulators, and legislators to make community-level improvements to Vermont’s communities.

Facilitate community, organizational or regional conversations related to program initiatives.

Contribute to the mission of the University of Vermont through collaborative associations with faculty colleagues located in multiple colleges and schools.

Conduct research, outreach, and scholarly activities that lead to presentations, publications (peer-reviewed and non-academic), and educational materials.

Obtain extramural funding to support an applied research program that addresses demonstrated needs of Vermonters; share research findings through outreach activities.

Interpret research findings and develop research-based solutions to grow and sustain the components of strong, viable rural communities.

Develop and lead outreach efforts based on identified needs, create/adapt research-based curricula; design and deliver educational programming, evaluate impacts on participants.

Collaborate with UVM Extension faculty and staff who work in related program areas.

Participate in faculty government, professional organizations and/or public and community agencies.
