Job Description Summary
For Research Specialist A: The position involves conducting experiments in two metabolism-focused labs, the Bartman lab focusing on cancer metabolomics, and the Seale lab focusing on fat cell biology and metabolic disease. The candidate will: (1) perform metabolomics experiments and routine mass spectrometry maintenance, (2) carry out mouse husbandry and genotyping, and (3) assist with ordering lab supplies and with setup of the Bartman lab. The candidate must be comfortable with the daily handling of mice. Techniques include: mass spectrometry (LC-MS) to measure metabolites, routine LC-MS maintenance, mouse husbandry, mouse colony maintenance, mouse genotyping, mammalian cell culture. Candidate must be self-motivated and able to work independently with limited supervision. Until October 2023, the position will be chiefly in the Seale lab with 20% of time spent in the Bartman lab; starting in October 2023, the position will be 100% in the Bartman lab.

For Research Specialist B: In addition to performing the tasks listed above, the candidate will be expected to analyze and present data as well as help troubleshoot experiments under the limited supervision of senior research staff.

  • Help in the general running of the lab, including: ordering, receiving items, and maintaining lab organization


Research Specialist A
  • Assist in Bartman lab set-up
  • Mouse husbandry, colony maintenance, genotyping
  • Mass spectrometry use and maintenance (routine calibration and cleaning)
  • General laboratory maintenance: ordering, stocking reagents/supplies, maintaining equipment
  • Other duties and responsibilities as assigned


Research Specialist B
  • Mouse husbandry, colony maintenance, genotyping
  • Mass spectrometry use and maintenance (routine calibration and cleaning)
  • Assist in Bartman lab set-up
  • General laboratory maintenance: ordering, stocking reagents/supplies, maintaining equipment
  • Analyze and interpret data
  • Other duties and responsibilities as assigned


Qualifications

  • RS-A: Bachelor of Science and 0 to 1 year of experience or equivalent combination of education and experience is required.
  • RS-B: Bachelor of Science and 1-3 years of experience or equivalent combination of education and experience required.


This position is contingent upon grant funding.
