Job Description Summary
Perry World House's “Global Shifts” theme brings together the Penn academic community with policymakers from around the world to tackle the most difficult of global challenges. In particular, it researches and spurs policies addressing the worst impacts of climate change; rapid urbanization and the changing landscape of cities; and human displacement, among other complex global phenomena affecting how and where people can live, work, and thrive.
Through strategic convenings, publications, partnerships, and public engagement, the Global Shifts theme stimulates basic and applied interdisciplinary research. It builds a high-level and diverse network of stakeholders at the fore of policy action, and it works to assure they have the ideas and research they need for impactful decision making.
In coordination with faculty and staff directors, the Program Manager will plan and execute annual public colloquia, workshops, lectures, symposia, etc. as well as other research-oriented convenings meant to springboard policy ideation. He/She/They will research and author reports, white papers, blog posts, opinion pieces, etc.; engage Penn faculty, think tanks, academic institutions, and other external stakeholders to advance the work; and leverage insights and knowledge through strategic communications. He/She/They will also work to identify global policy processes and other opportunities and venues where Global Shifts research could be most impactful.
The Program Manager will utilize and develop her/his/their expertise and networks related to the Global Shifts theme to identify prospective Visiting Fellows and Scholars and will manage the related outreach, visit planning, and outputs of these visitors. The Program Manager will also develop and implement undergraduate student programming, including weekly public lectures (The World Today), and other programming that discusses critical global affairs and events. As needed, the Program Manager will draft development materials and participate in the grant writing process for the thematic area.
Job Description
- Drive Perry World House's research agenda in coordination with
faculty and staff directors by planning and executing annual
colloquia, workshops, lectures, meetings etc.; researching and
authoring strategic written outputs (reports, white papers, blog
posts, opinion pieces, etc.); engaging Penn faculty to advance
Perry World House's goals; and undertaking strategic communications
(press releases, website, podcast, multi-media campaigns, etc.) to
leverage the contributions of the theme.
- Manage the theme's Visiting Fellows and Scholars, including by
identifying prospective Fellows, coordinating outreach to bring new
Fellows into the network, and driving and supporting each Fellow's
engagements on campus and outputs while at Perry World
House.
- Plan and implement a variety of effective and engaging
programming aimed at undergraduate students and faculty interested
in learning more about global policy and affairs. This includes
rapid response programming, weekly public lectures, Visiting Fellow
lectures, The World Today, etc.
- Undertake strategic outreach and engagement to other external
stakeholders, such as policymakers, think tanks, multilateral
organizations and other universities in the U.S. and around the
world.
Qualifications
- Bachelor's degree and 3 to 5 years of experience, or equivalent
combination of education and experience, are required.
- Master's Degree or higher and 4 to 7 years of work experience
is strongly preferred.
- Candidate should have extensive academic and programmatic
expertise in the thematic areas of the Global Shifts theme (climate
change, urbanization, and migration); have undertaken
policy-relevant research with a global focus; thrive in a
multi-faceted, faced-paced environment; be able to expertly project
manage and bring projects to a speedy and effective conclusion;
have exceptional writing, editing, and public presentation skills
across multiple platforms; be intellectually curious and thoroughly
self-motivated; and be a team player, highly collaborative, highly
entrepreneurial, and solutions-oriented.

Targeted Pay Range
- $51,824 - $80,000. Salary offers are made based on the
candidate's qualifications, experience, skills, and education as
