Job Summary

Install, maintain, and repair computerized irrigation systems, controllers, and backflow devices in a safe manner. Monitor water application to maintain landscapes. Equipment can include irrigation timers (clocks), control wire, sprinklers, water lines, pumps, and other plumbing equipment. Provide technical knowledge and expertise in landscape maintenance and irrigation operations.

Responsibilities
  • Install, repair, replace irrigation systems and related equipment
  • Locate irrigation lines in support of excavation efforts
  • Assist with inspection of repairs and installations made by outside contractors
  • May provide functional and technical direction to other grounds staff with regard to irrigation systems design, installation, and maintenance
  • Responsible for the installation of time clocks that operate irrigation systems
  • Work with others to efficiently perform assigned tasks including those in other divisions
  • Document, interpret and maintain appropriate logs, records, and inventory systems. Such as blue prints using Computer Aided Drafting (CAD) software and geographical information systems (GIS)
  • Properly inventory and stock all irrigation parts and tools to minimize down time
  • Diagnose problems with electrical meters and pumps; necessary repairs and adjustments to maintain all systems in proper working conditions
  • Performs specialized tasks during adverse weather conditions and university closure
  • May be called upon to assist with general maintenance and upkeep of landscapes


Required Qualifications

Educational Requirements
  • High School Diploma or equivalent

Required Experience
  • One (1) or more years of related work experience
  • Supervisory experience


Preferred Qualifications

Preferred Experience
  • Three (3) or more years of related work experience
  • Experience with computer maintenance irrigation systems
  • Experience operating irrigation controllers and timers for sprinklers
  • Experience in the calculation of water use required for landscape plant materials and determining precipitation rates for irrigation systems


Proposed Salary

$14.66 - $16.25 per hour

This is a non-exempt position paid on a biweekly basis.
