Description:
Pratt Institute is seeking an Oiler to join its Facilities Management Team who will perform duties in regard to lubricating and maintaining all power plant equipment as needed for normal operation. The successful candidate will have knowledge of the operation of all plant equipment, as well as the ability to repair and maintain all mechanical equipment. Position Duties:

  • Under direct supervision of the Stationary Engineer is responsible for the lubrication of the power plant, pumping and/or oil transfer equipment; performs related work.

  • Lubricates and cleans pumps, engines, blowers, compressors, motors, gears, ejectors and other operating equipment.

  • Reads meters, gauges and other operating equipment. Keeps logs.

  • Operates lubricant filtering and purifying equipment; maintains lubricant inventory.

  • Performs inspection, maintenance and repair duties on a routine basis, or as assigned by the Engineer in charge.

  • Checks all lubrication points and water levels, inspect the water and Steam pressure and flow to all systems, and determine whether the sump pumps need attention.

  • Monitors temperature and pressure readings and inspect all operating equipment on a regular basis.

  • Reports needed adjustments and special conditions to the Engineer in charge.

  • Repairs fixtures and inventory consumables.

  • Maintains proper lighting in all the engineering spaces.

  • Cleans and paints machinery spaces as designated.

  • At the request of the Engineer in charge, serve as a mechanical and electrical aid for other repairs and maintenance.

  • Communicates all necessary and critical information to the Engineer in charge.

  • Performs all other related duties as assigned by immediate supervisor or other appropriate department managers.

  • Attend all training pertaining to job descriptions above.


This is a Local 311 position at a rate of $32.6366 - $32.6366/Hourly


Qualifications:
Education: Must possess a high school diploma or equivalent.

Experience: Must have at least one year’s experience in power plant operation or at least 2 years’ experience as Lead mechanic.

Knowledge and Skills:

  • Ability to perform the above tasks are required.

  • Familiarity with Lockout/Tagout safety procedures and knowledge of DDC preferred.

  • Ability to maintain cooperative working relationships with diverse individuals as well as demonstrate respect for a culturally diverse population.


License: #6 Oil Burning Permit preferred or ability to obtain one within 6 months.
