Position Summary

This position will advise international students on immigration-related matters, assist with federal immigration regulation compliance, oversee study abroad initiatives, and serve as the primary point of contact for international partner universities. The Associate Director will assist with Office of International Services communications and outreach, spearhead cultural programming on campus, and will provide support to international recruitment, admissions, and students services initiatives. This position will supervise international student advisors and student staff (including student workers, interns, and graduate assistants).

Additionally, the position will serve as Designated School Official ( DSO ) or Primary Designated School Official ( PDSO ) for Governors State University and will be authorized to access the Students Exchange Visitor Information System ( SEVIS ). Position will also serve as the Responsible Officer (RO) or Alternate Responsible Officer ( ARO ) with signing authority as approved by the Department of Homeland Security and the Department of State.

Minimum Qualifications

· Bachelor’s degree

· Minimum of two (2) years of experience in international student or scholar advising or programming.

· Three (3) years of experience in higher education international services.

· Detailed knowledge of immigration, visa, and university academic and administrative policies and procedures. Ability to synthesize those areas of knowledge to effectively advise others.

· Demonstrated accuracy and attention to detail in creation and production of immigration documents.
· Familiarity with the Student Exchange and Visitor Information System ( SEVIS ).
· Knowledge of Student Exchange and Visitor Information System ( SEVIS ) procedures and processes.
· Excellent interpersonal communication skills, both oral and written.
· Ability to work effectively with individuals from varied administrative, academic, cultural, religious, national, ethnic, and linguistic backgrounds.
· Demonstrated ability to work collaboratively in a team environment.

Preferred Qualifications

· Master’s degree in a related field.

· Experience living, working, or studying abroad.
