Position Summary:
Office of Campus Police Services’ mission is to provide a safe and secure campus for our community. The Department consists of an Operations and Administrative Office: The Operation Section includes sworn police officers, security officers, and public safety telecommunicators. Services provided by the Operations Section include calls for police services, taking reports of crimes and complaints, student and staff escorts, in addition to many other services. The Administrative Section provides administrative support to the department, which includes record keeping services, providing discovery for attorneys, and processes report requests for involved parties.
Under the direction of the Crew Supervisor of Access Control, the Locksmith is responsible for maintaining high quality access control and locksmith services throughout all campus facilities, ensuring the security and integrity of the college's keying system at all times; does other related work as assigned.
Main Responsibilities:
- Repairs cylindrical and mortise lock sets, padlocks, safe locks, and miscellaneous furniture locks; Services and recombines various pin and disk tumbler cylinders; Installs, replaces, and repairs locks, exit devices and related door hardware; Makes keys via the use of duplicating and/or code-generating machines; Plans, sets-up, and installs master key systems; Performs preventative maintenance on locks and door hardware; Ensures all work is done in compliance with current life safety codes.
- Performs work on electronic access control systems and
low-voltage electronics, which includes the College's network and
stand-alone access control systems (Blackboard, Saflok,
Schlage/Locknetics, etc.); Assists in the administrative task of
maintaining user account information, access levels, building
access schedules, and network security information, while ensuring
the accuracy of all related databases.
- Inspects and makes minor repairs to parking gate operators,
works with vendors to ensure that operators are functioning as
specified; Inspects and makes minor repair to automatic door
operators including the installation, replacement, and adjustments
to manual door closers, works with vendors to ensure that power
operators are functioning as required and specified.
- Receives work orders from Supervisor using the department's
work order system, which outlines the work to be done, in what time
frame, and methods to be used in order to accomplish the job;
receives minimal callbacks from clients and maintains accurate
records of equipment/materials used, work done, and time spent.
Performs preventative maintenance on various building systems (e.g.
door hardware) as assigned through work orders issued via the work
order system schedule.
- Organizes assigned work, analyzes locksmith problems and concerns, develops appropriate work methods to resolve service requests in a timely manner; Ensures that all job tasks and responsibilities are completed in compliance with current college policies & procedures and/or as directed via the work order and supervisors instructions, including ensuring the confidentiality and integrity of said work, files, and programs.
- Prepares and/or works from schematics, sketches, plans and
specifications with accuracy in the field; Reads said schematics,
sketches, plans and specifications accurately with little or no
assistance from Supervisor; Maintains familiarity with the use and
nomenclature of approved trade practices and manufacturer's
recommendations. Wears college issued uniform while performing job
functions.
- Performs all assignments following established occupational
health, safety and environmental policies and regulations. Attends
all safety training. Works efficiently, but safely, so as to avoid
job related injuries; Performs other duties as assigned by
supervisor or designee that are within the scope of this
position.
Responds to calls for emergency assistance and overtime; both emergency and scheduled, pursuant to department protocol.
- Knowledge of policies, procedures, and methods of repairs and
preventative maintenance of all types of various types of high
quality physical and electronic security service work involving the
installation, repair, adjustment, and maintenance of various types
of lock systems, components, and related parts and equipment of
said systems.
- Must possess excellent organizational, analytical, verbal and
written communication skills. Must have the ability to read, write,
speak, understand or communicate in English sufficiently to perform
the duties of this position. Must have the ability to understand,
remember, and carry out oral and written directions and
assignments.
- Must have the ability to analyze maintenance and repair
problems and address them in an appropriate, efficient and
effective manner, including basic electronics as applied to
security functions.
- Ability to keep necessary records. Knowledge of working from
plans, drawings, specifications, sketches, and schematics.
Knowledge of procedures and methods effective in a large scale
higher education environment specific to facilities
management.
- Knowledge of work order system, creating and maintaining accurate records of work performed, equipment/materials used, and time spent using a computer and college supported software programs as aligned with the internal departmental procedures.
Preferred Qualifications:
- Experience with electronic locking system software
preferred.
- Minimum of one (1) year of recent work experience involving
access control in a large institutional setting (e.g. higher
education, school district, hospital) preferred.
- Minimum of three (3) years of comprehensive knowledge and
experience in the repair, alteration, and installation of locks,
door checks, and keys of varied types in an institutional setting
(e.g. higher education, school district, hospital).
- Proficient in the use of computers and computer systems & programs used by the college needed to perform the duties associated with the position.
- Final offer of employment is contingent upon the successful completion of a background check and reference checks.
