Compensation and Benefits

Anticipated Hiring Salary Range: $3,515 - $4,500 per month

Full Classification Salary Range: $3,515 - $6,358 per month

  • This is a full-time, probationary, exempt position.


The CSU system provides a comprehensive benefit package that includes medical, dental and vision plans, membership in the California Public Employees Retirement System (CalPERS), sick and vacation time, and 14 paid holidays a year. Job Summary

Under the supervision and lead work of the Dean of the Craig School of Business or her designee, this position is the School resource person, responsible for the creation and dissemination of communications projects and materials for the School, its departments, programs, centers, institutes and other School-related entities in accordance with the School’s strategic plan, mission, and goals. This position identifies topics that are of news value and writes compelling stories and press releases on behalf of the School. This position creates, manages, and implements media updates, works closely with University Communications, and maintains strong relationships with each of the departments, programs, centers, institutes, other School-related entities as well as the Director of Development in promoting the School’s activities and accomplishments to its students, faculty, the University community and the business community.

In addition to close collaboration with University Communications, the incumbent is expected to work closely with other academic communication specialists to ensure that proper branding is followed and a consistent campus strategy is developed and executed to advance the academic mission of the School and the University. Work is performed autonomously under general supervision and requires regular exercising of judgment and discretion to interpret policies, procedures, and objectives. Work is reviewed against overall goals and objectives, with full accountability for results, and soundness of judgment.

Key Qualifications

  • Exceptional writing and editing skills consistent with Associated Press (AP) style.
  • Excellent interpersonal skills including strong public speaking, listening and interpretive skills at all levels with the ability to work as part of a team and contribute to collegial environment.
  • Thorough knowledge of and ability to write compelling press releases and news stories to garner media coverage of programs, news and events in the School.
  • Thorough knowledge of web communication techniques, technology and formats to achieve communication goals.
  • Strong storytelling and journalistic writing skills, as well as advanced editorial skills.
  • Working knowledge of basic office systems and ability to learn to use a broad range of technology systems and packages including MS Publisher and Adobe Creative Cloud applications including, Acrobat, Photoshop, Illustrator, and InDesign.

Education and Experience

  • A bachelor's degree, which includes relevant coursework in the field.
  • Two years minimum of proven experience in the field of social media, media relations, website design and management, publications development, marketing and research.
