Job Summary

JILA is encouraging applications for a Professional Research Assistant to join our JILA Cleanroom. We are searching for a Clean Room/Metrology Lab Manager to be part of a collaborative and highly energetic team focused on research excellence, productivity, and mutual support. This is a working management position which is expected to spend a majority of time directly performing research and research support, mentoring and training students, consulting scientists, and operating the JILA Clean Room and Keck Metrology Lab. The position reports to the JILA Chief of Operations. The Clean Room/Metrology Lab manager supervises a full-time Clean Room technician and student workers.

What Your Key Responsibilities Will Be
  • Consulting JILA Researchers or approved external entities.
  • Clean Room and Keck Metrology Lab maintenance and equipment repairs and upgrades.
  • Perform Clean Room/Metrology Lab tasks for JILA Researchers or approved external entities.
  • Training and consultation clean room users.
  • Administrative Tasks: Procurement, User Account Management, Safety.
  • Staff Supervision.
  • Departmental Leadership: Communications, Coordination, Future Goals & Direction.
What We Can Offer
  • Salary range: $115,000 - $130,000.
  • Moving expenses reimbursement (if applicable): up to $3,000.

What We Require
  • A Bachelors degree.
  • Strong working knowledge of the use and/or management of Class 100 and Class 1000 Clean Rooms.
  • Working knowledge in vacuum technology, electronics, optical, and other clean room/metrology tools.
  • Experience with the best safety practices of chemical clean room processes.
  • Expertise in photo or e-beam lithography techniques.
  • Expertise in physical vapor deposition and thin film technology.
  • Ability to lift 50 pounds regularly.
  • Ability to detect, determine, perceive, identify, inspect and observe details at close range.
What You Will Need
  • Familiarity with specialized scientific instrument making and able to operate various machinery for instrument making and to perform in-house repairs/rebuilds of specialized equipment as necessary.
  • Commitment to mentoring and training students and other facility users with varied experience.
  • Strong interpersonal, verbal and written communication skills.
  • Strong organizational and logistical skills.
  • Ability to work well independently and in collaboration with others.
  • Familiarity with Microsoft Windows, Windows Server and Linux operating systems.
  • Proficient with Microsoft Office applications.
  • Drafting skill with AutoCAD and/or SolidWorks.
