Job Description:
Kansas City University College of Dental Medicine invites general dental practitioners or specialists certified in an advanced dental education program to apply for a full time position for Assistant Director of Dental Simulation in the Oral Health Center at the rank of assistant or associate professor. Faculty must be motivated and engaged clinicians who are excited to help build an innovative and dynamic academic and clinical dental medicine program, educating the next generation of dentists while providing comprehensive care to a rural and diverse group of patients.
The Assistant Director of Dental Simulation will be responsible for the development of the didactic and pre-clinical dentistry curriculum, integrating evidence-based best practices for pre-clinical simulation of patient care and daily operations of the Simulation Laboratory. The simulation laboratory will provide the virtual care experience to assist dental students in developing psychomotor skills, establish proper ergonomics, and implement infection control protocols while developing clinical skills. Dental students will practice real-world patient care procedures, using traditional and digital technologies for preclinical procedures that will support the comprehensive clinical patient care component of their education.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities:
- Develops didactic and pre-clinical dentistry curriculum, integrating evidence-based best practices for pre-clinical simulation of patient care
- Collaborates with, and educates the simulation faculty, and clinical faculty in the current science of pre-clinical procedures and techniques
- Provides oversight of all pre-clinical simulation courses and
guidance for course directors providing didactic pre-clinical and
clinical instruction in:
- Endodontics
- Restorative Dentistry
- Pediatric Dentistry
- Periodontics
- Prosthodontics
- Dental anatomy and occlusion
- Dental Materials
- Digital dentistry
- Conducts summative and formative student assessments
- Ensures adequate function and maintenance of Simulation Clinic equipment, wet lab and physical space
- Ensuring sufficient materials and supplies for pre-clinical operations
- Competence in advanced technologies, digital workflow and/or dental implants to support expansion of the advanced technology curricula
- Monitors the safety of each student working including proper PPE and infection and prevention control measures
- Participates in the calibration of Simulation Laboratory Faculty
- Serves on standing and ad hoc CDM committees
Qualifications:
- D.D.S./D.M.D. degree
- Current Missouri dental license or have an active dental license in a US state or Canada and be eligible for licensure in Missouri
- Candidates must demonstrate a passion for dentistry, an enthusiasm for dental education, and a strong desire to teach students in a demanding, startup academic environment
