Job Description

The Division of Applied Social Sciences seeks applications and nominations for a Professional Development Specialist within the academic program of Agricultural Education and Leadership at the University of Missouri.

The mission of the agricultural education program is to prepare students to become educators for leadership positions within the agriculture, food and natural resources field. This position will coordinate professional development and in-service programs for school-based agricultural education educators. These programs include, but are not limited to, area and district seminars, technical institutes, credit and non-credit workshops, and an induction program for first- and second-year teachers. This position also will assist in planning and coordinating the annual MVATA summer conference, annual State CDEs held during the State FFA Convention and assist staff in Agricultural Education in providing leadership for public school programs in agriculture. The position will annually assess the educational and professional development needs of school-based agricultural education educators. The successful candidate will also be involved in professional activities, including serving on the MVATA Professional Development Committee and on the MoACTE Program Improvement Committee.

Appointment and Starting Date: Appointment is an unranked, non-regular, benefit eligible position with funding provided through an annual contract with the Missouri Department of Elementary and Secondary Education. The position is an 80% appointment (.80 FTE) and will begin August 1, 2023.

Qualifications

Minimum qualifications: Master’s degree in Agricultural Education or related field.

Candidates will be evaluated on: Experience teaching agriculture in public schools. Presentation and written communication skills. The ability to secure the respect of agriculture teachers and stakeholders of agricultural education programs. Aptitude and desire to work collaboratively in a team atmosphere while also being a self-starter. Organizational and managerial skills.
