The Fashion Institute of Technology (FIT), part of the State University of New York and an internationally renowned college of art, design, business and technology with a strong emphasis on liberal arts, invites nominations and applications for a Social Media Coordinator in the Communications and External Relations department.

JOB DESCRIPTION:

The Social Media Coordinator reports to the Executive Director of Media and Public Relations and is a member of the Media Relations team (and the Department of Communications and External Relations (CER).  The Coordinator plans, curates, manages, and implements content in support of an institutional social media strategy; engages with others working in the social media space across the college ( to leverage activity and messages across channels); and collaborates with others in CER to advise on and identify social media opportunities that communicate the vision and strategic plan of the college. 

Essential Functions:

  • Manage the implementation of the college's overall social media channels: Plan and schedule posts, maintain oversight of comments and related activity, coordinate key social media campaigns, report on social media analytics on a quarterly basis, identify and report on trends and opportunities for engagement amplification.
  • Support the editorial process by working with the communications team to share digital stories
    across platforms, developing original content for social media and digital initiatives, including video, aimed at multiple audiences.
  • Size and optimize photos for social media posts, websites, and other digital channels using Photoshop and other digital software tools.
  • Conceptualize and plan shoots and edit video for social media using Adobe and related video and audio software.
  • Speak and make presentations as a leader of the college's social media strategy, tactics, upcoming campaigns; review and share outcomes.
  • Continually identify opportunities for broader campus engagement around social media and the sharing of experience, knowledge, goals/objectives, and social media standards and policies.
  • Track and provide training to campus constituents on social media best practices and integration of social media into college and departmental communications and marketing.
  • Identify institutional and relevant external issues developing on social media and escalate as necessary to CER leadership.
  • Serve on and offer guidance to the CER emergency response team.
  • Oversee social media intern, when relevant, and coordinate periodic meetings with other content creators across the college.

REQUIREMENTS:

Minimum Qualifications:

  • Bachelor's degree required. 
  • Three (3) years of progressive professional experience in social media or an equivalent work combination.

Knowledge, Skills and Abilities:

  • Demonstrated experience managing a large organization's social media presence, including experience with social media planning, strategy, tactics, tools, and monitoring.
  • Experienced writer, editor, and proofreader with strong news sense, excellent storytelling skills, mastery of grammar, and punctuation.
  • Adept at identifying and writing engaging content.
  • Highly organized and able to manage multiple requests and college happenings (news, announcements, events) and deploy in a timely manner.
  • Experience working with graphics; ability to identify strong photography and other types of images for use in social media platforms.
  • Knowledge of HTML and Adobe Suite programs for web, photo, video, and audio such as Photoshop,  Premiere, along with office applications Word and Excel and G-Suite.
  • In-depth knowledge of current social media platforms, dashboards (like Hootsuite or Sprout Social), and the metrics to base ROI to leverage FIT's social media channels.
  • Highly attuned ability to identify and develop innovative content that will engage FIT's community and public at large.
  • Experience formulating social media plans based on performance-based metrics and analysis of previous campaigns that addresses FIT's strategic goals.
  • Must be willing to work nights and weekends when appropriate for either events or emergency communications.
  • Punctual, dependable, and enthusiastic about working in a highly creative educational environment.
  • Experience managing/working with an external pr agency.

Preferred Qualifications:

  • Experience working in higher education, arts and cultural organizations, or nonprofit environments may be beneficial but is not not required.

ADDITIONAL INFORMATION:

The UCE-FIT Collective Bargaining Agreement (CBA) dictates the compensation, benefits, and conditions of employment. 
Starting Salary: $72,182 per year with step increments per Salary Schedule 94, after one year of service and annually thereafter.
