Job Description Summary
Reporting to the Controller of the Division of Business Services, the Assistant Controller is a highly visible position that partners with the division's three operational centers (18 departments), various institutional stakeholders which includes the Division of Finance, and external stakeholders. As such, this role requires a high level of technical competency, collaboration, and written and oral communications skills.

This role helps ensure and improve the Division's financial controls environment, and alignment, with University policy through financial reporting, tax, audit, and compliance activities. Examples of these activities include:

Job Responsibilities
  • Assist in overseeing the Division's accounting close process and fund balancing.
  • Assist in the continuous improvement of the Division's internal control structure.
  • Lead the Division's balance sheet consolidation, review and reporting to the University's Comptroller's Office.
  • Assist in federal, state, and local tax compliance, provisioning, and reporting.
  • Lead the monthly close for University's hotel businesses to ensure consolidation of results on the University's financial statements.
  • Assure alignment with University policies including T&E expenses, system access requests, and the use of University procurement systems.
  • Assure proper accounting and approvals for capital project funding and asset activity.
  • Assist in managing compliance reporting and records retention for critical activities including grants and operating contracts.
  • Maintain asset inventory and lead physical existence audits.
  • Represent the Division as directed by the Controller on appropriate matters.
  • Other Duties as assigned.


Qualifications
  • A Bachelor's Degree in accounting or finance with a minimum of 5-7 years of experience, or equivalent combination of education and experience is required.
  • Demonstrated understanding of US GAAP principles, US Tax Code, Not-For-Profit Tax Code, and general accounting responsibilities.
  • Proven experience working in an operational accounting position.
  • Excellent written and communication skills.
  • Ability to multi-task and prioritize items.
  • Customer service mentality that fosters a collaborative environment to solve problems.
  • Ability to work independently with limited supervision.
  • Track record of effectively and efficiently managing competing priorities and meeting goals.
  • Familiarity and experience with Penn's systems and University's policies strongly preferred.


Targeted Pay Range: $61,046.00 - $100,000.00
