Position Announcement
This position will help lead writing and messaging for both internal and external audiences. They will interact with both students and donors to tell the full story of how together education is being pursued and success attained. Functions include marketing, communications, publications, brand management, writing, editing, web information, web content development and electronic communications. The individual in this position will be responsible for exercising discretion, analytical skills, personal accountability, and responsibility in a broad range of writing areas. Work involves creating, integrating, applying, and sharing knowledge directly related to the stories of students and those helping them to succeed for a lifetime. This position strategizes, plans, publishes, maintains, and edits written and digital content on the web such as stories, graphics, photos, video, and other information relevant to the success of the Institutional Advancement (IA) division of Utah Valley University. Ensures that web content is accurate and current. Designs and sends broadcast emails using multiple tools. Manages large-scale projects involving multiple individuals and tight deadlines. Analyzes and prepares monthly metrics reports of the activities and responses to web content and broadcast emails.

Summary of Responsibilities

  • 40% Develop, write, and edit digital fundraising materials including newsletters, email appeals, case statements, materials for events, and feature stories.
  • 30% Work closely with IA designers and web developers on visual concepts, photography, graphics, and layout of pages.
  • 20% Track website and email analytics, along with other key performance indicators and hep develop and present reports on performance of publications and written content toward departmental goals.
  • 10% Provide support for additional editorial needs of the UVU Institutional Advancement Marketing and Strategic Communications Team.


Minimum Qualifications
Graduation from an accredited institution with a bachelor's degree in a related field and at least three years of experience related to the summary of duties; OR an associate's degree and five years of experience related to the summary of duties; OR any combination of education and/or experience related to the summary of duties totaling five years.

Preferred Qualifications:
Bachelor's degree and 2-3 years of experience.

Knowledge, Skill, and Abilities

  • Knowledge of customer service and professional ethics.
  • Knowledge of web-based resources, including social media and SEO.
  • Knowledge of, and experience with, the basic tenets of marketing and journalism.
  • Knowledge and experience working with project management within a professional design/production setting.
  • Knowledge of public fundraising techniques, strategies, and compliance guidelines or constraints.
  • Communicate clearly and exercise effective interpersonal, problem solving, teamwork, and decision-making skills where a certain degree of creativity and latitude is required.
  • Excellent interpersonal communication skills.
  • Excellent writing, language, and editing skills.
  • Skill in creating professional business correspondence, marketing materials, and reports.
  • Skill in writing, editing, and proofreading to include terminology and proposal development and writing.
  • Ability to resolve problems by thinking logically, identifying tasks, and developing modular programming steps.
  • Ability to follow directions and work under supervision.
  • Ability to keep current with industry standards and trends by attending training and conferences; reading technical material; and corresponding with other professionals through the use of listservs, networks, and bulletin boards.
  • Ability to adhere to university web standards, policies, and procedures.
  • Ability to succeed in a fast-paced and diverse workplace environment with rapidly shifting priorities and deadlines.
  • Ability to effectively manage time to complete tasks on schedule.
