Position Announcement
The Fulton Library at Utah Valley University is hiring a Reference/Instruction Librarian to support the Information Services team.

The Information Services Team of the Fulton Library is responsible for providing research instruction to UVU students. The instruction program contributes to the essential learning outcomes and mission of the University through course-integrated library instruction. We offer information literacy instruction in a variety of modalities: a credit-bearing course, in-person and online course-integrated sessions, research workshops, online tutorials and research guides, and research consultations. Through library instruction, we teach students to think critically about how they seek, evaluate, and use information, both in the classroom and in their day-to-day lives.

Summary of Responsibilities

  • Provides professional reference services: Assisting students, faculty, and staff with research inquiries, including conducting literature searches and providing instruction on how to use library resources effectively.
  • Teaches information literacy instruction sessions and SLSS 1050 sections: Developing and delivering instructional programs and workshops that teach students how to use library resources, conduct research, and evaluate information.
  • Assists with the library's Executive Research service: supporting campus programs and initiatives through research and writing of literature reviews on university-related topics for decision-making processes.
  • Oversees collection development: selecting and acquiring books, journals, electronic resources, and other materials that support the academic programs of the institution; and faculty liaison role for assigned areas: collaborating with faculty and academic departments to understand their research and teaching needs and to provide support for those needs through library resources and services.
  • Performs a variety of other professional tasks/job related duties as assigned.


Minimum Qualifications
Graduation from an accredited ALA library college or university with a master's of Library Science degree is required.

Preferred Qualifications:
Additional graduate study and/or professional experience in library science or related fields and computer-related library operations helpful.

Knowledge, Skill, and Abilities

  • Knowledge of current library and educational trends.
  • Knowledge of library instruction methods and services.
  • Knowledge of the use and content of reference sources as well as ability to match a wide variety of user needs with appropriate resources.
  • Knowledge of methods in the evaluation and selection of print and non-print sources.
  • Proficiency in the use of computers, peripherals, and software applications, such as the Microsoft Office Suite, and the ability to assist patrons with their use.
  • Ability to provide formal instruction in a variety of settings based on information literacy theories.
  • Ability to use instructional technologies to create effective and accessible online learning objects.
  • Ability to develop new ideas and contribute to library instruction improvements.
  • Ability to be self-directed and meet deadlines.
  • Ability to communicate clearly both verbally and in writing.
  • Ability to work flexibly and creatively with students and faculty from diverse backgrounds.
