PURPOSE
The purpose of the Software License Professional is to provide the widest set of campus licensed software to the broadest population while minimizing the costs of delivering and managing the titles. This initiative is to manage software licensing and distribution for common and commonly used software for staff, faculty, and students.
RESPONSIBILITIES
OPERATIONS - 35%
- Assists all users with the process of acquiring software -
functions as their “broker” to help navigate infosec,
accessibility, sole source, contract review, etc.
- Maintains inventory of all the university software and
tracking of upcoming software renewals. Reminds Owners/Custodians
of upcoming renewals and recommendations for retiring software as
needed.
- Advise on licensing options to develop the software
portfolio and services to ensure continued alignment to business
needs and strategic goals.
PROGRAM MANAGEMENT - 35%
- Stay current on legal issues in the areas of software usage
and distribution.
- Employ software discovery and recognition tools such as SCCM
to investigate software usage, analyze and understand findings to
support software licensing related decisions and management
information requests.
- Identify opportunities to provide improved value for money
including consolidating individual licenses into larger agreements
and reducing the replication of functionality across multiple
products whilst maintaining compliance.
- Monitor classroom utilization of specialized software for
educational use to ensure applications are not “stale” in
usage
- Manage the configuration and quality of data within a
Software Assets Management Tools such as “SNow” or “License
Dashboard” to ensure optimized usage of software assets and
facilitate compliance across the TAMU-CC software
portfolio.
BUDGET - 20%
- Assist in maintaining a licensing budget to allow for
recommending of solutions for similar product
requests.
- Identifies software savings opportunities: overpayment,
underutilization, redundancy.
- Confirms or performs business case analysis for all software
acquisitions over $10,000/yr.
- Generates reports predicting how much the university
expenditures currently as well as forecast models.
- Monitor software sales, distribute request forms, fill
requests, and educate users of various software
programs.
OTHER - 10%
- Attend educational workshops; review professional
publications; establish personal networks; benchmark state of the
art practices; participate in professional
societies.
- Adheres to internal controls established for
department.
- Performs other related duties as required.
WHAT YOU WILL NEED
- Bachelor's degree in applicable field.
- Five (5) years of related experience in business
analysis.
- Equivalent combination of education and experience: Master's
+ 3 years of related experience.
- Critical thinking and analytical abilities, exceptional
communication skills, and strong leadership and collaborative
skills, as well as project management skills
- Able to organize/manage multiple priorities and projects
coupled with the flexibility to quickly adapt to ever changing
business priorities and perform well under pressure.
- Understands the software acquisition process.
- Strong attention to detail and accuracy in all
areas.
- Ability to apply judgment and make decisions.
- Excellent communication skills, both written and verbal, to
liaise with customers and vendors.
- Flexible approach to tasks with the ability to prioritize
multiple tasks whilst maintaining accuracy.
- Capable of applying own initiative to address new and
changing situations.
WHAT THEY WOULD LIKE TO SEE
- Experience in higher education, organizational development
and / or human resources preferably demonstrated knowledge of
higher education organization structure and business practices and
the associated systems and platforms.
SALARY: Commensurate upon experience.
