Job Description:

Amherst College invites applications for the Financial Reporting and Data Analyst position. The Financial Reporting and Data Analyst is a full-time, year-round position, starting at $61,545 per year - commensurate with experience. The Financial Reporting and Data Analyst is responsible for ensuring the financial data and available reporting is accurate and supports the work of the Finance Team (Associate CFO, Shared Services, Budget and the Controller offices) as well as the campus end-users. This position is the primary steward, gatekeeper and communicator of the financial data and helps to organize and manage the security of and access to the data and reporting. This position is responsible for collaborating with colleagues in the Finance office and a diverse set of campus users to help develop financial reporting resources, new reports and reporting skills in other staff when appropriate.

The Financial Reporting and Analyst will also be a key resource and partner, together with the IT team, in helping to support all integrations involving the financial data flowing between Workday and other entities such as banks, payment providers, etc.

Summary of Responsibilities:
  • Report Writing - Develop new and maintain existing financial reports (production level and ad hoc) as needed using Workday, Excel, and other available tools.
  • Data Management - Maintain financial data and reporting tools in support of the work of the Associate CFO, Shared Services, Budget and Controller offices - understanding all intersections and/or organization of data (General Ledger chart of accounts and sub ledgers) as well as any other external systems that interface with the financial and reporting data. Create reports and tools for monitoring and maintaining data integrity and quality.
  • Communications and Collaboration - Liaise with colleagues in Finance and across campus (such as HR, IT, Provost etc.) to ensure systems and tools are working accurately and supporting institutional and departmental priorities.
  • Responsible for understanding and organizing data security/permissions related to access of financial data and reports.
  • Develop and maintain resources and training materials for financial data and reporting (such as a data dictionary and report catalog) to help Finance colleagues and campus end-users build understanding and self-sufficiency with financial reporting.
  • Represent the Associate CFO, Shared Services, Budget, and Controller offices data needs and serve as primary campus point person for financial data and reporting.
  • Identify and develop new functionality to improve efficiency and accuracy of financial transactions and data and to streamline internal processing.


Qualifications:

Required
  • Bachelor's Degree or an equivalent combination of relevant education and/or experience
  • Minimum of 1-3 years work experience with financial data, reporting & systems
  • Relevant experience or training on data management, reporting and financial systems
  • Strong organizational skills
  • Good communication skills - oral and written
  • Strong knowledge of Excel and Google Office tools
  • A strong commitment to and demonstrated ability to contribute to an intentionally inclusive environment for all members of the community


Preferred
  • A degree in finance, accounting, data analytics or related field;
  • Strong understanding of the general ledger, financial systems and data landscape especially in higher education
  • Experience with Workday Financials
