Who We Are:

Swarthmore College’s Counseling and Psychological Services (CAPS) supports the mental health and well-being of Swarthmore students. We aim to create a safe and confidential environment through a range of psychological support and consultation services. We provide individual and group counseling, assessment, consultation, and referral services to the Swarthmore community.

The opportunity:

The Access/Care Manager provides brief assessment and triage of clients’ presenting concerns and serves as bridge between CAPS and external resources. This position serves as the first point of contact to assess student needs:
  • Evaluates the risk level and clinical need of incoming students.
  • Determines referral and level of care.
  • Connects students to resources in the community as appropriate.
Essential Responsibilities
  • Provide access appointments over the phone including risk assessment, clinical dispositioning, and brief psychoeducational intervention.
  • Assist in the referral to external resources as clinically indicated or requested by current students.
  • Provide follow up case management and consultation for the Swarthmore campus community.
  • Maintain accurate and timely documentation for all clinical interactions and consultations.
  • Maintain up-to-date knowledge on resources available in the community in order to serve as liaison between CAPS and these community mental health & social services.

What you bring:

Required Qualifications
  • Master's Degree in Social Work, Counseling, Counselor Education, or related field.
  • Independent Licensure in PA in professional discipline within 2 years of hire.
  • Supervised internship or work equivalent experience in a college counseling center, mental health agency, or related professional setting.
  • Strong organizational and administrative skills.
Preferred Qualifications
  • Experience providing psychotherapy, diagnostic assessment, and outreach in a college counseling center setting.
  • Demonstrated understanding of social, developmental, and psychological issues and challenges faced by diverse populations of students within a higher education setting.
  • Comfort and skill at initiating professional liaison relationships with representatives from
  • internal and external referral resources.
