Position Description
The Department of Pediatrics, Division of Genetic Medicine at University of Washington is recruiting a full-time academic biochemical geneticist at the level of Assistant Professor, Associate Professor, or Professor, without tenure (WOT) on the Clinician-Scholar pathway. Salary and academic appointment at University of Washington will be commensurate with experience, qualifications, and academic rank.

Assistant Professors are eligible for multi-year appointments that align with a 12-month service period (July 1-June 30). Faculty with 12-month service periods are paid for 11 months of service over a 12-month period (July-June), meaning the equivalent of one month is available for paid time off.

Associate and full Professors hold indefinite appointments that align with a 12-month service period (July 1-June 30). Faculty with 12-month service periods are paid for 11 months of service over a 12-month period (July-June), meaning the equivalent of one month is available for paid time off.

Responsibilities will include patient care (inpatient consultations, primary inpatient service, outpatient biochemical genetics clinics at the various Seattle Children's Hospital sites and the University of Washington, and regional clinics in Washington) and teaching of medical students and residents.  Opportunities will be available for clinical research and collaboration with physician/scientists in the Seattle Children’s Research Institute and basic scientists in the Departments of Pediatrics and Genome Sciences at the University of Washington.  If there is interest and applicant meets qualification, applicant could assume Medical Biochemical Genetics Fellowship direction. Medical biochemical genetic services are currently provided by five biochemical geneticists, three genetic counselors, three nurses, three dietitians, and one social worker.

All University of Washington faculty engage in teaching, research, and service.

Anticipated start date is Summer 2024.

The base salary range for this position will be: Assistant Professors $11,588 - $17,381 per month ($139,056 - $208,572 annually), Associate Professors  $13,294 - $19,940 per month ($159,528 - $239,280 annually), Professors $16,253 - $24,379 per month ($195,036 - $292,548 annually) commensurate with experience and qualifications, or as mandated by a U.S. Department of Labor prevailing wage determination. This range is inclusive of base salary provided through the Children’s University Medical Group (CUMG) practice plan, in addition to base salary provided by the University. Please note that only compensation provided by the University is included in University benefit determinations and calculations. Compensation provided by Children’s University Medical Group (CUMG) practice plan may provide eligibility for separate benefits offered by that organization.

Other compensation associated with this position may include incentive through Children’s University Medical Group practice plan.

Positive factors for consideration include but are not limited to board certification in Pediatrics or Internal Medicine.

Qualifications
Applicants should:

  • Have an MD, or DO, or MD/DO combined (or foreign equivalent).
  • Be board-certified in Clinical Genetics (MD or DO required).
  • Be either board-certified or board-eligible in Clinical or Medical Biochemical Genetics.

In order to be eligible for University sponsorship for an H-1B visa, graduates of foreign (non-U.S.) medical schools must show successful completion of all 3 steps of the U.S. Medical Licensing Exam (USMLE) or equivalent as determined by the Secretary of Health and Human Services.
