Position Description
The Department of Art & Visual Culture invites applications for a part-time Instructor in Art to teach an undergraduate foundations course ‘AVC 109 Creative Coding’ to Arts and Visual Culture majors and minors beginning August 2023. Instructor needs to be able to teach on-line and/or in-person.
Creative Coding teaches computer science through the lens of a studio art course, where the focus is art
and design, but the medium is student-written software. This class will be taught using P5js with teaching support in Open Processing.
Applicants should demonstrate a deep understanding of the P5js library and editor as well as a strong background in computational thinking for creative use. Applicants should have an active professional studio practice (that includes exhibitions, residencies/fellowships, and/or publications) or equivalent
professional work experience in the space of creative technology or creative coding.
The ideal candidate should be prepared to introduce students to an inclusive collection of contemporary
artist practices and professional work that leverages creative coding or creative technology:
The ideal candidate should demonstrate a capacity to encourage students to explore, experiment,
iterate, write, and critique.
• The ideal candidate is familiar with makerspace/innovation lab environments. Previous experience working with makerspace equipment (3D Printers, Laser Cutters, etc.) is preferred but not required.
