The Department of Nursing Science is developing and will offer a graduate program in Nursing. The department will seek accreditation/approval through the Minnesota Board of Nursing and Commission on Collegiate Nursing Education (CCNE). The Master’s degree in Nursing program will prepare graduates for certification as a Family Nurse Practitioner. This innovative program will be supported, in part, by a $1.5M gift from CentraCare Health, one of the largest health systems in Minnesota.

The Department of Nursing Science offers an undergraduate program within the nursing discipline and is a fully accredited member of the Commission on Collegiate Nursing Education (CCNE).

The four-year Bachelor of Science degree with a major in Nursing (BS), a traditional pre-licensure program, is a 68-credit major preparing caring professional clinicians for practice in contemporary health care settings.

The RN-BS completion program is fully online and includes 30 upper division Nursing credits. Students with a previous AA, BS, or BA degree may complete the traditional program in less than four years.

Responsibilities will include:

  • Lead the design, development, and approvals of the graduate Family Nurse Practitioner Track in collaboration with CentraCare.
  • Coordinate the implementation of the graduate program through St. Cloud State University’s curriculum process and the Minnesota State Colleges and Universities system that meet national standards.
  • Prepare documents and facilitate graduate nursing accreditation through the Minnesota Board of Nursing, the Commission on Collegiate Nursing Education (CCNE), and other approving bodies.
  • Teach didactic and clinical/laboratory courses on campus and/or online in the graduate Family Nurse Practitioner program and undergraduate program.
  • Perform periodic and ongoing program evaluation.
  • Actively market the program and recruit students.
  • Facilitate processes to prepare graduates for national credentialing and application to respective state boards of nursing for authority to practice.
  • Fulfill responsibilities of faculty membership within the department, school, and University.
  • Advise graduate students.
  • Engage in community and professional service associated within area of expertise.
  • Engage in extensive community and university collaboration to build an effective innovative program.

Required Qualifications

  • Doctoral degree in Nursing (DNP or PhD) from an accredited program
  • Leadership experience in the development of a Family Nurse Practice program of study
  • Demonstrated experience working with graduate students in a higher education setting
  • Demonstrated experience with scholarship and research
  • Evidence of active practice as a Family Nurse Practitioner
  • Demonstrated ability to communicate effectively and work cooperatively with students, faculty and community, including community agencies
  • Evidence of demonstrated ability to teach and work with people from culturally diverse backgrounds

Preferred Qualifications

  • Current National certification as a Family Nurse Practitioner
  • Current or eligible for Minnesota licensure as a RN/APRN that has never been encumbered
  • Demonstrated success in teaching in or development of a graduate nursing education program
  • Demonstrated experience with supervision of advanced practice nurses
  • Experience with applicable Nursing technology, online, informatics, and simulation
  • Demonstrated ability with team-teaching
  • Demonstrated continued education and professional development
  • Strong organization and communication skills
