Job Summary/Purpose:

The Student Information Analyst serves as the College’s lead student information, process, and functional analyst. With the goal of providing user-friendly, collaborative, and service-focused support, the position provides expertise and training on college-wide student functional and technical issues related to student services, accounts receivables and credit and non-credit instruction, among other areas. Job activities include testing upgrades, implementing business process improvements, and applying system configurations, along with the regular development of end-user reports, documentation, and training materials. The position is critical in aiding the College and end users to analyze and identify process improvements that impact student information processing and service delivery.

The position is not a typical information technology job. A professional background in information technology is not required to be successful. Indeed, skills and experience in data analysis, student services, business administration, and education are suitable if you are a self-starter, capable of grasping complex concepts, explaining them to end users, and committed to ongoing learning and relationship-building to achieve goals.

Terms of Employment:
  • This is a 12-month exempt position at pay level 25 in the Administrative salary schedule.
  • In an effort to be as transparent as possible, please note that the starting wage/salary ranges listed in our position postings are based on a thorough analysis of COCC’s pay equity, current budget, and specific employee group contracts. Thus, these ranges are fixed as noted in the posting and non-negotiable. The wage/salary schedules on the College website are used for internal purposes, and should not be interpreted as a means of negotiating starting pay during the recruitment process.

Essential Functions:

Functional and Information Analysis
  1. Lead functional analysis activities for student information activities.
  2. In coordination with student and academic affairs personnel, analyze and identify process improvements to student information systems.
  3. Serve as a liaison between internal teams and College end users to implement appropriate system changes and identify and prioritize activities related to student success initiatives.


Technical Support
  1. Provide expertise, support and training on technical and functional issues related to student information systems.
  2. Monitor and manage system upgrades and testing.
  3. Seek answer and guidance to functional questions regarding system issues, process improvement and system efficiencies.

Project Management
  1. Perform project management for student application-related implementations and upgrades.
  2. Provide end user subject matter expertise ( SME ) and “train the trainer” training as appropriate.
  3. Facilitate the analysis, development, and support of end user reports.

Collaboration and Partnerships
  1. Collaborate with Student Affairs and college-wide teams to assess student information/systems needs such as financial aid, student onboarding, student progress, and student engagement.
  2. Coordinate and monitor student information system security groups and processes in conjunction with information technology teams.

  2. Knowledge and an application of relational databases and queries in the context of data analysis, report creation, and troubleshooting.
  3. Experience in and ability to collaborate, build relationships, and foster teamwork amongst and between diverse teams and departments toward common goals.
  4. Knowledge and application of project management principles, practices, and outcomes.
  5. Ability to work with individuals and teams to identify, document, and improve levels of service to students.
  6. Ability to effectively communicate, both verbally and in writing, technical and complex issues with both end users and technology staff.
  7. Ability to demonstrate effective training and presentation skills.
  8. Ability to effectively problem-solve issues that affect multiple departments, bringing stakeholders to a reasonable consensus on process.
  9. Ability to work cooperatively with and contribute to a diverse workplace through ideas or experience.


Physical Demands and Other Ergonomic Requirements:

Working hours are generally Monday through Friday from 8-5. Additional hours or schedule changes may be required based on work requirements. Work is performed in an office setting, mostly sitting with frequent computer use. Individual is required to be able to perform the essential functions without a significant risk of injury or to otherwise demonstrate or explain how they can perform the essential functions listed above. This position may be eligible for periodic remote work, but the position is primarily on premise.

Minimum Qualifications:
  1. Bachelor’s degree in data analytics, business, education, technology, student services or a related field.
  2. Three years of similar/relevant work experience in any combination of the following:

  • Supporting users on business-related systems
  • Functional or business analysis
  • Data analysis, reporting, and workflow development
  • Project management or coordination
