POSITION SUMMARY


The Mental Health and Wellness Educator will provide mental health and wellness education services to the students and campus community primarily at the Saint Mary-of-the-Woods College campus. The Mental Health and Wellness Educator will provide direct outreach programming and services to students according to assessed campus needs and interests; increase the reach and impact of mental health and wellness education/awareness across campus through consistent marketing and scheduling of events; supervise a student-coordinated peer education program dedicated to mental health and wellness programming; and collaborate with campus partners, student groups, and other constituents to support and strengthen mental health education and programming efforts. Additionally, they will consult and support fellow Mental Health and Wellness Educators and the counseling services departments across the MINDful College Connections (MCC) consortium (DePauw University, Rose-Hulman Institute of Technology, and Saint Mary-of-the-Woods College) to espouse best practices and strategies that will allow us to provide a broad portfolio of services designed to assist with the personal, educational, and overall development of a diverse student body.

Essential Functions Statement(s)
  • Develop, coordinate, facilitate, and evaluate holistic mental health and wellness education and programming for the campus community.
  • Expand awareness of mental health and wellness initiatives across campus through educational branding, marketing, and development of a master calendar, programming guide, and event schedules.
  • Provide consultation services to students, faculty, and staff regarding mental health and wellness topics and provide referrals to available resources as appropriate.
  • Coordinate and collaborate with campus partners to support and strengthen mental health education and programming efforts.
  • Respond to unique programming, presentation, workshop, and other educational event requests from student groups/organizations as well as from faculty/staff.
  • Coordinate and oversee the counseling center's social media accounts, serving as a primary information source and mode of communication with students, as needed.
  • Supervise the peer education mental health program, to include recruiting, training, mentoring, and supporting a diverse cohort of Peer Educators to become role models, leaders, educators, and public health champions for their peers, as they coordinate and facilitate mental health education and wellness programming on campus, including evidence-informed health promotion strategies and bystander interventions.
  • Serve as an advisor to individual student groups/organizations as needed.
  • Manage funding for mental health and wellness outreach initiatives and training.
  • Participate with or conduct other assigned functions that contribute to the success of the counseling center and institution, such as: participate in departmental or division staff meetings, committee service, or liaison with academic or administrative units, including CARE/BIT teams.
  • Serve as a liaison between the counseling center and the MCC Executive Director.
  • Receive supervision from the counseling center regarding local policies, procedures, and the prioritization and assignment of specific job tasks and duties as deemed most beneficial for the campus.
  • In partnership with other MINDful College Connections staff, facilitate professional development programming for peers among the MINDful College Connections member institutions.
  • Participate in appropriate professional development activities to stay abreast of current mental health and wellness education, research, and trends in higher education, such as: hold membership in professional organizations, attend professional conferences, and/or accrue Continuing Education Units (CEU's).
  • Other duties as assigned.
RELATED DUTIES:
  • Compliance with MINDful College Connections policies and procedures.
  • Develop positive, supportive, and collegial relationships with team members within the counseling center, with staff and faculty across campus, and with those across the MINDful College Connections consortium.
  • Travel will be required to other MINDful College Connections member institutions.
  • Some evening and/or weekend hours may be required.

Education: Master's degree required; preferred fields include: Health Promotion, Health Education, Public Health, Student Development, Higher Education Student Affairs, Clinical Social Work, Clinical Mental Health Counseling, Clinical Psychology.

Experience:
  • Experience working/providing services in an educational environment required.
  • Experience in a higher education setting preferred.
  • Experience working with peer educators or significant experience as a peer educator preferred.
Communication/Language: Intermediate: Ability to read and interpret documents. Ability to write routine reports and correspondence. Ability to speak effectively before groups of customers or employees of organization.

Math Ability: Ability to add, subtract, multiply, and divide in all units of measure, using whole numbers, common fractions, and decimals.

Computer Skills: Knowledge and familiarity with Word, Excel, PowerPoint, and social media platforms.

Certificates, Licenses & Registrations: Certified Health Education Specialist (CHES) preferred.
