Salary for Announcement

The minimum of the pay range for this position is $49,900. We anticipate the qualified candidate to be placed between $49,900 - $62,400 . The salary of the finalist(s) selected for this role will be set based on a variety of factors, including but not limited to, internal equity, experience, education, specialty and training.

The above salary range represents the University’s good faith and reasonable estimate of the range of possible compensation at the time of posting.

Position Summary

As a part of Student Engagement and Wellness at Metropolitan State University of Denver, the Student Care Center is committed to student well-being by fostering a university community of integrity and respect. The scope of the Student Care Center includes the facilitation of non-clinical case management on behalf of the CARE Team (behavioral intervention team), generalized support and referrals for students in crisis, oversight of the Rowdy’s Corner (on campus food pantry), managing the Student Emergency Retention Fu nd, assis ting with public benefits and oversight of the Epic Scholars and HOPES Program.

The Care Case Manager is an integral part of the Student Care Center team. Please note: This position is non-clinical but does preliminary assessments for immediate mental health and crisis intervention needs.

                                                                      

This position coordinates applicable case management responses for students who experience challenges that may interfere with their academic pursuits and/or may pose a threat to the health and safety of themselves, others, or place. The Care Case Manager also works directly with students to manage support and/or safety related interventions. The Care Case Manager actively collaborates and consults with faculty, Deans, advisors, health care providers on campus and in the community, law enforcement, parents, and colleagues across the institution to develop action plans related to student and community safety, and to ensure that plans are executed as written. The Care Case Manager also works to address students’ needs through case management which may include assisting with public benefit applications (SNAP/Medicaid), triaging emergency housing needs and addressing basic needs insecurity. This position reports to the Director of the Student Care Center and supports the recommendations of the CARE Team. This position collaborates with other professional staff in the Student Care Center and the Dean of Students Office daily to provide timely case management for a variety of complex student needs.

Duties/Responsibilities

As a member of the Student Care Center team, this position has the following responsibilities:

7 0% – Student Case Management for the Student Care Center/CARE Team
  • Manage a revolving student case load, assigned through the CARE Team, student conduct process, and/or at the request of the Director of the Student Care Center or the Associate Vice President for Student Engagement & Wellness/Dean of Students.
  • Implement non-clinical interventions to provide care, support and resources for students who have challenges with their health/wellness, academics, behavior, safety or their general welfare, basic needs resources, public benefit assistance and financial concerns.
  • Assist students in navigating a variety of academic and financial appeals at the University.
  • Assist students with public benefits applications for SNAP/Medicaid, etc.
  • Assist with referrals to/from the emergency fund, managed by the Director of the Student Care Center.
  • Manage highly sensitive case information and assist in triaging new referrals to prioritize urgent safety concerns or immediate threats to basic needs.
  • Adhere to and execute CARE Team protocols, including the maintenance of accurate electronic case management records.
  • Provide culturally and linguistically trauma-informed case management services to students.
  • Apply student-centered and harm reduction approaches.
Safety Assessment, Crisis Support, and Behavioral Intervention
  • Serve as primary student support for all Behavioral Intervention cases and students presented to MSU Denver's CARE TEAM
  • Skillfully assess, develop, and implement timely and appropriate interventions to threats to student safety, including but not limited to: suicidality, mental health crises, substance use crises, relationship violence, bias-motivated incidents, emergent homelessness, natural disasters, and beyond .
  • Responsible for coordinating with MSU Denver's CARE Team to implement behavioral interventions, crisis response, and safety protocols for students deemed a threat to the campus community
  • Liaise with health care providers on campus and in the community, law enforcement, parents, and colleagues across the institution to establish and ensure compliance with student action plans.
  • De-escalate students who present in crisis (virtually or in person) to the Student Care Center or Dean of Students Office
  • Coordinate and participate in student welfare checks
  • In coordination with the Health and/or Counseling Centers, provide post-hospitalization support to students returning from a mental/behavioral health setting and transitioning back to the University environment. Assess for immediate mental health and crisis intervention needs (i.e.: suicidality).
 3 0% – Leadership, Consultation & Outreach
  • Consult with and advise Deans, Chairs, Faculty members and staff in relation to student interventions, needs assessments, referral coordination, and safety concerns.
  • Cultivate relationships across the University to foster trust and implement interdisciplinary coordinated care plans to support student success.
  • Serve as content expert for the MSU Denver community in the areas of holistic non-clinical case management, basic needs provision, community resources, and support of student wellness toward retention and degree completion.
  • Build deep knowledge of university policies and protocols; provide education and navigation support to students, staff, and faculty alike.
  • Develop and deliver training for both Student and Academic Affairs to expand University-wide capacity to respond to student needs.
  • Contribute to and carry out Student Care Center and Dean of Students Office Strategic Plan.
  • Represent the university in coordination of student services with community partners.
  • May provide direct supervision, coaching and mentoring to Master's Level Interns.
  • Serve on committees and assist with initiatives outside of the Student Care Center.
  • Occasionally assist with food procurement, fundraising efforts, assessment projects, and events for Ro wdy’s Corner and the Student Care Center .
  • Carry out special projects on behalf of the CARE Team and/or the Student Care Center designed to enhance campus and student safety.
  • Assist with the assessment of student learning and/or the efficacy of Student Care Center.
Required Qualifications
  • Completed Master's Degree in Social Work, Human Services, Psychology, Student Affairs, or a related field OR Completed Bachelor’s Degree in Social Work, Human Services, Psychology, Student Affairs, or a related field AND at least two years of relevant work experience
  • One or more years of experience providing holistic case management and resource navigation with students, individuals, and/or families .
  • Experience responding to crisis situations.

Preferred Qualifications
  • Completed Master's Degree in Social Work, Human Services, Student Affairs, Psychology or a related field
  • Two or more years of experience providing holistic case management and resource navigation with students, individuals, and/or families
  • Experience working in higher education setting or with CARE/Behavioral Intervention Teams. 
  • Demonstrated experience working with diverse populations such as low-income, people of color, military veterans, DACA/Dreamers, and first-generation college students
