Woosong University is expanding our existing departments and programs, as well as launching new departments and programs. As such, there are numerous Assistant Professor positions available.

Full-Time Assistant Professor of Media and Communication Arts 

The Department of Media and Communication Arts in the College of Software Convergence at Woosong University, seeks applications for three full-time Assistant Professor positions:

-Media and Communication Arts

-Media Design and Video Contents

-Game and Multimedia

September 1, 2023

Remuneration and Benefits:

Salaries are competitive and commensurate with qualifications.

In addition to your salary, you will receive:

  • housing (upon availability) 
  • flight reimbursement (for applicants coming to Korea from abroad)
  • applicants coming to Korea from abroad will also receive a settlement allowance of 100,000 won per day that they arrive before their start date, up to a maximum of 15 days  
  • 4 weeks (20 working days) of paid vacation each year.
  • Basic health insurance through the national health insurance plan
  • Membership in the private Korea Teachers Pension (monthly contribution: approximately 9% of your salary)
  • Opportunities for financial compensation for publishing in recognized peer-reviewed journals

Who are we looking for?

-Media and Communication Arts

Qualified candidates will:

  • hold a master’s degree in a relevant field
  • experience with Plat design and video design
  • at least three years of working experience and educational experience
  • * Those who can speak Korean and Chinese
  • * Those who can give lectures on flat design and video design (after effects, premier, etc.)
  • * Preferential treatment for experienced project development

What is the job?

As an Assistant Professor of Media and Communication Arts, you will teach classes including, but not limited to:

  • Video Graphics Studio, Image Motion Graphics, CF Motion Graphics, Media Content Creation

-Media Design and Video Contents

Qualified candidates will:

  • hold a Master of Fine Arts (MFA) or Ph.D. degree, with a major related to media production (video production/shooting, editing, and producing); and
  • Over 10 years’ experience TV, Film, or content-making as director, producer, or editor etc.
  • * Experience with cinematography and post-production skills, camera, lighting and editing tools like Final Cut Pro, Premiere, Protools, Illustrator, and Photoshop.
  •  * Able to communicate clearly in and possess a good command of verbal and written English. Good presentation skills are essential.
  •  * A genuine interest and understanding in Korean popular culture and knowledge (Korean-English bilingual preferred)

What is the job?

As an Assistant Professor of Digital Media Content Production, you will teach classes including, but not limited to:

  • Visual Storytelling, Post Production Basic, Global Culture Industry, Entrepreneurship, Photoshop and Illustrator, Video Production Basic, Applied Media Aesthetics, Drama Production, Understanding MCN

-Game and Multimedia

Qualified candidates will have:

  • Work experience as a person with a master's degree or higher in related fields
  • Persons with at least seven years of  experience
  • * Preferential treatment for Ph.D. with at least three years of experience in the relevant field
  • * Preferential treatment for 3D modeling and character animation classes
  • * Preferential treatment for those who can train Unreal Engine

Ideal candidates will also have:

  • Experience with classroom teaching, training, curriculum development and implementation;
  • An understanding of and commitment to the mission of the school;
  • A demonstrated commitment to student learning;
  • Experience using a variety of teaching and assessment techniques, especially including technology, that enhance student success;
  • A strong ability to work well with people of all ages, from academically, culturally, and economically diverse backgrounds;
  • The ability to work well as a member of an international, multi-cultural team; and
  • The ability to work independently and with minimal supervision to achieve high-quality learning outcomes and student satisfaction.

Core teaching responsibilities:

Successful candidates will teach courses including, but not limited to, the following:

  • Game Character Design, Game Graphics Foundation, Game Effects Production, Character Animation

Most assistant professors teach between 12-15 credit hours per semester; the department makes teaching assignments based upon the professor’s qualifications and the department’s needs. Teaching responsibilities are at the undergraduate level; include student counseling and involvement with student clubs; as well as participation in other department-related activities.

Our program is designed to provide a thorough understanding of the skills needed to succeed in the dynamic field of transmedia with insight into Hallyu, the Korean Wave. You will be honing core industry skills such as storytelling, research methodology, and the ability to creatively articulate abstract concepts. You will learn about Hallyu and how to work within multi-channel networks for the transmedia entertainment industry. Learning the fundamentals and how to apply them will provide you with the skills necessary to negotiate the broadcast, film, and entertainment landscapes and be uniquely qualified in multi-platform media for our online, always-connected world.

The Department of Media and Communication Arts prepares students to use modern media communication techniques to serve the artistic, cultural, educational, and informational needs of contemporary society. The program is composed of critical theory and creative practice leading to media content production, circulation, and channel performance with various opportunities for business creation within the new era of digital technology convergence. Our program is uniquely focused on Hallyu, giving our students a greater understanding of what makes South Korea so successful as an emerging media empire.

Graduates of the program will be prepared for employment opportunities locally and globally in broadcasting, film, and other entertainment industries like cable and online media, video and audio production, and areas related to global media and cultural industries. Our graduates stand out worldwide as quality professionals in the “Korean Wave” and as industry experts, performers, and marketers.
