Buena Vista University in Storm Lake, Iowa invites service-oriented professionals to apply for the position of Research Librarian: Liaison to the Extended University Programs (EUP) . We seek a librarian to provide reference and instruction services to our online and on-campus undergraduate and graduate students. The ideal candidate is passionate about student success and will play a key role in creating an optimal experience for users of the BVU Library. This position is a full-time, 12-month, non-tenure track position This position reports to the Library Director and works cooperatively with the director to meet the research needs of our patrons.

The successful candidate will be responsible for
  • providing service via chat, email, Zoom/Teams, phone, and in person. Some evening and weekend hours are required.
  • library instruction at the undergraduate and graduate levels.
  • creating instructional aids such as research guides and video tutorials.
  • assisting in training library student workers.
  • maintaining and growing the library’s social media presence.
  • engaging faculty to promote library use.
Required:
  • ALA-accredited master’s degree in library science or equivalent.
  • Commitment to public service and student success.
  • Excellent communication, presentation, and interpersonal skills.
  • Knowledge of current and emerging trends in academic libraries.
  • Ability to work individually and collegially.
  • Demonstrated ability to prioritize, manage and complete multiple tasks, sometimes on tight deadlines.
  • Intellectual curiosity, an ability to learn and adopt technologies quickly, and the capacity to anticipate, prevent and solve problems.
  • High attention to detail.
  • Commitment to equity, diversity, and inclusion.
Preferred:
  • One to three years of recent professional experience working in an academic library.
  • Library instruction experience or coursework or other teaching experience.
  • Experience with library outreach activities, including hosting events and building a sustainable social media presence.
  • Experience working with WMS ILS and Canvas LMS.
  • Experience promoting open educational resources (OERs).
