Job Description
A PhD level scientist with experience in both project management and the Climate Smart / Biobased economy. Will report directly to PI Golden and have responsibility The Market Awareness / Benefits Project Coordinate will work under Dr. Golden at the Dynamic Sustainability Lab at Syracuse and will lead efforts to acquire and assimilate agriculture, climate and industry data and to implement programs and documentation to support the development and growth of Climate SMART commodities in the marketplace.
This position is anticipated to be filled on a fully remote basis if the candidate identified resides outside of the Syracuse/Central New York area. Not all geographical areas within the United States are eligible. Employment offers at Syracuse University are based on a combination of factors including, but not limited to, the job responsibilities; the candidate’s education, training, work experience and key competencies; the university’s strategic priorities; internal peer equity; applicable federal, state, local laws, grant funding and contractual requisites; and external market analyses.

Job Specific Qualifications
- Minimum of five-years demonstrated experience with various types of biobased products, biobased manufacturing and various industrial sectors of the biobased economy that includes climate smart commodities is required.
- Prior experience on USDA funded projects on the Biobased Economy or Climate Smart commodities is desired.
- Candidate is expected to have training in the development of relational databases, visual databases, mathematical modeling, and a publication record regarding the biobased economy or climate smart commodities commensurate with professional experience.
- Should be conversant with Microsoft Bi, GIS, federal and industry biobased databases, understanding of utilizations and pathways of biobased feedstocks.
- Ability to translate work into written Spanish is desired.
Research
- Acquires climate smart commodities data.
- Analyzes industry and government datasets.
- Complies the data into a form for a database.
- Designs a user-friendly database in Excel or Access that lists climate smart commodities value chain members and related service organizations in the State of New York and national organizations as appropriate.
- Develops data visualizations in Microsoft PowerBi or Tableau.
- Manages the on-going maintenance and updates for the Database.
- Designs a user-friendly website to integrate the database and technical reports in Wix.
- Develops data visualizations in Microsoft PowerBi or Tableau to be used in the website.
- Manages the on-going maintenance and updates for the Website.
- Develops technical reports for technical and general audiences on the utility of the climate smart commodities database and website.
- Contributes to broader project team technical reports on topic specific areas related to climate smart commodities.
- Contributes technical information for project team social media campaigns.
- Guides and instructs student researchers either in person or via zoom in Climate Smart research.
- Trains users of the database.
- Participates in specified workshops and/or conferences hosted by the Dynamic Sustainability Lab.
