High Point University is seeking a University Librarian to join our excellent faculty and caring staff. High Point University is a progressive school situated in the heart of piedmont North Carolina. The 500+ acre campus boasts new facilities and a beautiful campus. With an FTE of 5800, HPU has a robust undergraduate population and growing list of graduate programs. High Point University libraries include a main library, two satellite locations, and a staff of 20. The University Librarian is a part of the faculty and has faculty status overseeing library operations, including all collections, their access, and acquisitions. The current library/learning resources number 265,000 physical volumes and include 850,000 eBooks with access to 42,000 periodical titles through ownership, esubscriptions, and electronic databases. The library’s integrated catalog (WMS) allows access to all physical and e-resources.

Education 

  • Master’s Degree from an ALA-accredited library school.   A PHD in Library Science or in a related field of study.   

Experience and Training: 

  • Five years of experience in an academic library.  
  • Five years of management and supervisory experience in an academic library.   Experience working with faculty in a research environment is preferred. 

Knowledge, Skills, Ability: 

  • Strong management, communication, and interpersonal skills.  
  • Ability to communicate a strong service message.   Ability to work collaboratively within the library and in the University community.  

 

ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS: 

  • Directly supervises library employees, including hiring, firing, disciplining, scheduling, training, assigning work and ensuring completion of assigned responsibilities. Maintains a positive work atmosphere.  
  • Assures that the collection, both physical and virtual, supports the learning and research outcomes of the University community.   Manages an information resources budget and exercises fiscal control to assure proper use of financial and personnel resources while assuring the campus community has the materials needed to be successful in their research endeavors.   Establish library objectives that mesh with the campus’s long-term goals for resource and research services for students, staff, and faculty.   Works with the campus community to assure that the library is a safe, pleasant study and research environment for students and other members of the campus community.  Advocates on behalf of the library with stakeholders, communicating the value of library resources and services in supporting the broader University mission.  
  • Help develop and maintain employees’ professional growth and development by facilitating a culture of continuous learning.   Is aware of emerging trends and technologies that will impact the delivery of information resources on the campus of the future.   Participates on university committees.   Other duties as assigned.
