About the Opportunity

The Roux Institute in Portland, Maine is seeking a postdoctoral fellow to join our team focused on developing the integration of fundamental mechanics and physics-based principles with data-driven approaches at the interface of disciplines. Successful candidates will emphasize at least one of the following domains: mechanics and physics-based models and data science in engineering in systems of fluids, solids, motions, thermodynamics, biophysics, and electrostatics. Areas of research will focus on data-driven methods in broad areas of engineering including, but not limited to, Engineering Design, Energy, Computer Engineering, Power Electronics, Bioengineering, Ergonomic, Human Factors, Engineering of Health Systems, Manufacturing, Robotics, Autonomy, Internet of Things, and Cybersecurity. An effective research program will execute use-inspired discovery with an entrepreneurial mindset that develops science and solutions that matter to society and impact the Maine economy.

Postdocs will receive formal and structured mentoring on topics including mentor/mentee research relationship, technology transfer, and proposal development.

This fellow will have opportunities to collaborate on group on existing projects and the development of new opportunities with Roux Industry Partners and federal grant opportunities. There will also be opportunities to mentor junior team members and provide educational support across the Roux Institute. The ideal candidate will have a strong background in applied engineering and science with an entrepreneurial mindset or a willingness to learn about use inspired research. As an individual contributor to the visualization research mission, the Postdoctoral Fellow will be responsible for executing and developing a research portfolio with meaningful engagement of partner organizations.

Qualifications
  • Ph.D. or equivalent degree in Engineering, Science, or related fields;
  • Research experience in engineering including, but not limited to, Engineering Design, Energy, Computer Engineering, Power Electronics, Bioengineering, Human Factors, Engineering of Health Systems, Mechanics and Materials, Manufacturing & Industry 4.0, Additive Manufacturing and Materials, Robotics, Autonomy, Internet of Things, and Cybersecurity.
  • Experience in integrated experimental research and modeling using first principles and numerical/statistical methods.
  • Basic programing experience.
  • Demonstrated ability to work effectively within interdisciplinary research teams and build long-term relationships with research partners.
  • Excellent communication skills across diverse audiences and settings.
  • Ability to work in a fast-paced and innovative setting. Adaptability.
