The History Program in the School of Humanities, Education, Justice & Social Sciences is seeking an instructor for immediate hire to teach a class in American History I for the Fall, 2022 semester.

The Class is currently scheduled to be on campus with a meeting time of Tuesdays 3:30 - 6. We strongly prefer this to remain an in-person, face-to-face class but are willing to consider a hybrid part-in-person/part-online plan.

Course Description: This course examines the chief political, social, and cultural features of American society as they have developed through the period of Reconstruction. Emphasis is on Colonial America, the War of Independence, the Constitution, and the emergence of the Republic through the Civil War

RESPONSIBILITIES AND DUTIES:

• Provide instruction for all sessions of assigned courses utilizing the college philosophy of connected learning. Online content delivery through our learning platform on Canvas although other tools can be incorporated.
• Provide a syllabus and course outline to students that clearly communicates course learning outcomes.
• Align some course assignments with departmental and college core curriculum goals learning goals and provide student work samples for college assessment purposes (sample assignments available)
• Align course coverage with DESE requirements for Secondary Education in History/Social Studies
• Maintain a minimum of 1 office hour each through conference calling such as Zoom; on on-campus office can be provided.
• Keep accurate records of student progress (grades) and complete mid-semester and final grade reports by registrar deadlines

QUALIFICATIONS:

• Willingness to incorporate the university's Connected Learning Philosophy into the course.
• Doctoral degree in history or a related field preferred; ABD and/or master's degree will be considered.
• Prior college teaching experience to diverse students is strongly preferred.
• Successful applicants will demonstrate passion for a student-centered teaching environment and innovative, project-based learning utilizing an active, experiential approach.
