Overview
This position is accepting applications until June 1, 2023.

The Social-Health and Affective Neuroscience Lab conducts research on psychosocial determinants of health with a focus on neurobiological mechanisms linking the two. The position will take place in-person on the campus of San Diego State University as well as the lab located just adjacent to campus.

Under supervision of the Principal Investigator, the project coordinator is responsible for conducting/collecting neural and self-report data from young adults (ages 18 - 25). Tests administered to include standardized tests as well as computer tests, ecological momentary assessment, and questionnaires. Gathers, enters, compiles and analyzes research data, creates and manages databases, monitors reliability and validity of collected data, assists in data presentations and performs organizational tasks.



Responsibilities
The Research Specialist I is responsible for but not limited to:



Responsibilities


  • Data Related Tasks 75%

  • Collaborate with the Principal Investigator, Co-Investigators, and Project staff to conduct data management and coding, analysis, and developing presentations and reports. Collect data using standard experimental tasks and questionnaires. Collect ecological momentary assessment data using Metricwire software. Create and manage databases. Use SPSS or R software to complete data cleaning and preliminary analyses. Use Excel and other software programs to create charts and tables to graphically display data and results. Contribute to development of study-related reports and papers.


  • Develop Project-Related Materials 10%

  • Work with the Principal Investigator and collaborate with Project staff to maintain IRB certification of the study; assist the PI in preparing IRB progress reports and IRB modification paperwork and accompanying materials; create informational and data collection materials for use across study sites. Create and manage databases.


  • Other Duties and Responsibilities as Assigned 15%

  • Regularly meet with Principal Investigator and provide updates regarding the progress of the study; manage and respond to project-related email and inquiries in a timely manner; attend meetings and conference calls; set deadlines and complete tasks to meet study aims; monitor and ensure reliability and validity of data collected; interact professionally with participants when they come in for testing; order and manage test materials and other project materials, monitor test and project equipment.



    Qualifications
    Knowledge and Abilities
    • Knowledge of research environment techniques for maintaining confidential records, recruiting participants, collecting data and conducting interviews
    • Knowledge of study participant recruitment and retention protocols, field data collection, entry management
    • Knowledge and competency in computer skills including, Microsoft Office Suite, SPSS and Filemaker Pro
    • Knowledge and use of computers, preferentially Mac platform
    • Knowledge and understanding of health research conduct
    • Ability to understand and follow research study protocols and procedures
    • Ability to display strong interpersonal skills
    • Ability to communicate effectively, both orally and in writing
    • Ability to interact effectively and professionally with co-workers, subordinates and general community
    • Ability to work independently
    • Ability to be well organized, meet deadlines and display detail orientation
    • Ability to possess good judgment and common sense
    • Ability to display sensitivity to ethnically and culturally diverse individuals
    • Ability to understand and follow posted work rules and procedures

    Required Experience/Education
    • Completion of Bachelor’s degree in Psychology or equivalent
    • One year of experience in technical research or statistical work experience

    Preferred Qualifications

  • One year of experience in psychological or neuroimaging (MRI) research
