Sidwell Friends, a co-educational Quaker day school with campuses in Washington, DC, and Bethesda, MD, seeks a part-time Interim Photography + Imaging Teacher to teach combined introductory and intermediate-level classes for its Upper School division for the 2023-24 school year.
The ideal candidate will be able to demonstrate an ability to inspire and support students and will show a willingness to work collaboratively and independently in an environment committed to academic excellence, equity, justice, service, and students social emotional wellness. Additionally, this candidate will be committed to fostering and overseeing a safe learning and working environment.
The position requires a close working relationship with members of the Upper School Visual Arts Faculty. Main position duties: teach hybrid intro/intermediate-level classes where students gain knowledge of the techniques and language of lens-based media, learn the fundamentals of composition, and create images with intention. The Visual Arts Department hosts two gallery shows of student artwork each school year, and teachers are responsible for curating/producing these shows.
Applicants must have an undergraduate degree in a Visual-Arts-related field (masters degree preferred). Experience teaching digital and analog film photography is required. This person should have experience working with students in grades 9-12. An appreciation for adolescents and a sense of humor are also essential.
Teaching positions at Sidwell Friends School are campus-based; therefore, this position requires teaching in person.
