SUNY Broome Community College is a comprehensive community college located in the scenic Southern Tier of New York.  The College has over 7,700 students annually, and services over 6,100 students per semester in Liberal Arts, Business & Professional Studies, Health Sciences, and Science, Technology, Engineering, and Mathematics (STEM) programs.  An additional 1,600 students are served through the College's workforce and non-credit programs.

Job Description:

SUNY Broome Community College has a full-time, 10-month, tenure track appointment opening as an Assistant Professor in the Health Studies Department, available beginning Fall 2023.  This position comes with an academic work schedule from August to May with time off to enjoy the summer months.  Ten (10) month salary is spread over twelve (12) months to allow for consistent, uninterrupted pay periods.  Generous benefits package includes, but is not limited to:  Medical, Dental, and optional Vision and Flexible Benefit Plan.

The department offers A.A.S. and A.A. programs in Health Sciences and is positioned to expand course and program offerings, including non-credit and micro-credential opportunities.  The successful candidate should be willing to participate in course and program development within the credit, non-credit, and micro-credential realms.

Primary responsibilities include, but are not limited to:  Didactic and laboratory instruction (in various modalities), student advisement, participation in assessment activities, clinical/internship coordination, and committee assignments for the department and the College.

Performs related duties supportive of the educational program including:

  • Course revision and development.
  • Selection and preparation of texts, instructional materials, supplies and equipment.
  • Maintenance of laboratory equipment and facilities, as directed by the chairperson.
  • Evaluation of student performance.
  • Assist students outside scheduled classes.
  • Assistance with obtaining and maintaining clinical/internship affiliations.

The successful candidate will have previous experience teaching undergraduate courses related to health sciences.  Preference will be given to candidates comfortable with and willing to utilize technology and teach in multiple modalities (e.g., face-to-face, online, and Hyflex).  The program course schedule may include day, evening, weekend, and summer courses.

The successful candidate will demonstrate strength in teaching, learner engagement, teamwork, faculty development, and the ability to foster collaboration within the division, College, and community.  Candidates comfortable in a student-centered, diverse classroom with a strong commitment to the community college mission are encouraged to apply.

 

Requirements:

A Master's degree in an appropriate field is required.  Preference given for candidates with clinical patient care and electronic health record/administrative experience.

Additional graduate coursework in an appropriate field is desirable.

Three (3) years of teaching experience or appropriate combination of teaching, relevant work experience, and scholarly activity is required.

Additional Information:

The minimum annual salary for this position is $55,225.  Salary offer will be based on the candidate's qualifications and experience.

Offers of employment will be conditional based upon the results of a satisfactory, required pre-employment Standard Background Check.
