Job Summary:

The Waisman Center is dedicated to the advancement of knowledge about human development, developmental disabilities, and neurodegenerative diseases throughout the lifespan. One of only 15 centers of its kind in the United States, the Waisman Center encompasses laboratories for biomedical and behavioral research, a brain imaging center, and a clinical biomanufacturing facility for the production of pharmaceuticals for early stage human clinical trials. In addition to its research efforts, the Center provides an array of services to people with developmental disabilities, offers numerous educational and outreach programs to young children and their families, and trains scientists and clinicians who will serve our nation in the future.

The position is part of the Waisman Center's University Center for Excellence in Developmental Disabilities (UCEDD) and within a program titled Community TIES (Training, Intervention and Evaluation Services). Community TIES is a Community Outreach Wisconsin (COW) Program which is a Waisman Center behavioral support program serving children and families, adolescents and adults with developmental disabilities who live in the community. This position will provide behavioral consultations to both Spanish and English-speaking children and adults with intellectual developmental disabilities (IDD) and their families/care-givers. This position may also provide consultations and training statewide on a limited basis.

Responsibilities: Creates specialized treatment plans for individuals involving coping skills and behavioral modification techniques, implements or supervises the provision of services designed to increase independence and encourages development for clients. May also assist in student instruction.

• 55% Assesses patients, determines appropriate treatment, and creates specialized treatment plans to develop coping skills, modify behavior, and increase independence
• 10% Updates patient records with treatment plans and progress, and reports noticeable changes in client behavior to personnel in accordance with departmental and agency guidelines
• 10% Represents rehabilitation service programs among community agencies to raise awareness of services and coordinate patient treatment across specialties
• 5% Assists in providing rehabilitation counselor instruction to students and interns
• 5% Contributes to core functions of the University Center for Excellence in Developmental Disabilities (UCEDD), including activities of training/teaching, conducting research, disseminating evidence and best practices, and demonstrating model services.
• 5% Create and present trainings for community members and caregivers related to individuals with disabilities
• 10% As needed, assist other Community Outreach Wisconsin programs to enhance access for Spanish speaking clients and families.

Education:

Required
Bachelor's Degree
A degree in Social Work or related pertinent field (such as Rehabilitation Psychology, Special Education, or Psychology) preferred.

Preferred
Master's Degree in Social Work or a related field is preferred.

Qualifications:

Required Qualifications:
- Three years of experience in providing support to people with intellectual/developmental disabilities (IDD) in community settings (experience in student positions will be considered).
- Experience in developing and writing behavioral support plans.
- Must be fluent in English and Spanish.

Well-qualified applicants will possess the following preferred qualifications:
- Skills in individual counseling and small group counseling techniques. This entails the skills to build rapport, work in a variety of situations (1:1 and small group), facilitate or de-escalate a situation if needed in both settings, and use pro-active techniques effectively with the individuals supported.
- Excellent oral and written communication skills including basic computer competency.
- Skills in offering training and facilitating a team process.
- Well versed in applying and advocating "best practice" strategies and philosophy related to Community Inclusion for persons with intellectual/developmental disabilities (IDD).
- Experience in offering direct training to Community Support Team on positive behavioral supports.
- Experience in in supporting mental health needs of persons with IDD including managing crisis situations.
- Knowledge of funding resources including the Children's Long-Term Support Waiver (CLTS), Family Care and Include, Respect, I Self-Direct (IRIS).

It is anticipated this position requires work be performed in-person, onsite, at a designated campus work location.

Must complete HIPAA training and receive certification within the first 5 days of employment and annually thereafter within 5 days of notification.

Reporting requirements must be completed in a timely manner, including but not limited to effort reporting and outside activities reporting.

A valid driver's license that meets UW Risk Management standards is required for the purpose of driving fleet vehicles, or the incumbent must provide his/her own transportation to sites.

This position will require travel to various locations within the Dane county area.

Occasional evening and weekend hours may be expected.
