Position Announcement
Utah Valley University is taking applications for a one-year Lecturer position. Working under the direction of the Department Chairperson, this Non-Tenure Track Lecturer faculty position will have teaching responsibilities (15 credits per semester) that will include a variety of courses such as Introduction to Health Professions, Health Education for Elementary Teachers, Foundations of Human Nutrition, Nutrition Through the Life Cycle, Human Sexuality, student teaching observations, and other courses as needed. Teaching schedules may include online, hybrid, face-to-face, and live streaming modalities, and may include evening and weekend classes. This position will plan, prepare, and follow an approved course of study in health that includes measurable objectives for each course taught. Prepares instructional materials as applicable and identifies learning materials and equipment necessary for coursework; may participate and collaborate with other faculty on projects to enhance and improve the student learning experience. This lecturer position will document and maintain accurate records of student accountability, attendance, performance, and follow-up. Faculty are required to attend and participate in department, college, and university meetings/committees as appropriate. Other responsibilities include establishing and maintaining office hours and advising students during this time and at other times as needed and appropriate. Supports and embodies exceptional care, exceptional accountability, and exceptional results, as well as UVU's Mission. Performs other job-related duties as assigned.

Summary of Responsibilities

  • 40% Plans, prepares, and follows an approved course of study in Health that includes measurable objectives for each course taught (15 credits/semester). Instructs, manages, and supervises individuals and groups in classrooms by demonstrations, visual aids, and discussion while maintaining a student-oriented approach to an engaged learning educational experience.
  • 25% Prepares instructional materials (PowerPoint/livestream presentations, classroom demonstrations, visual aids, Canvas-based assignments) as applicable. Identifies learning materials such as texts, supplies, study guides, and equipment necessary for coursework.
  • 15% Attends and participates in department, college, and university meetings and committees as appropriate. Collaborates with others within the department, college, and university on the development of new and innovative instructional techniques that will improve student learning as applicable.
  • 10% Establishes and maintains office hours and advises students as needed and appropriate. Supports and embodies exceptional care, exceptional accountability, and exceptional results, as well as UVU's Mission. Performs other job-related duties as assigned.
  • 10% Documents and maintains accurate reports and records student accountability, attendance, performance, and follow-up.


Minimum Qualifications
Master's degree in a health related field.

Knowledge, Skill, and Abilities

  • Knowledge of public health programs, school health education and course content.
  • Knowledge of U.S. and Utah school health education curriculum, including pedagogy, teaching implementation, and student evaluation.
  • Knowledge of and proficiency with Microsoft Office Suite, including Word, Excel, Outlook, and PowerPoint
  • Knowledge of instructional strategies and techniques, curriculum development, and evaluation and assessment of instruction
  • Knowledge of student management, motivation, and evaluation
  • Knowledge of current trends in health education, including those related to inclusion and diversity
  • Skills in effective instructional strategies and modalities in school health education.
  • Skills in public speaking and professional presentations Skills in the use of technology that supports student learning, especially related to online platforms such as Canvas
  • Strong interpersonal, communication, problem-solving, decision-making, and critical thinking skills.
  • Skills in student management, motivation, and evaluation
  • Ability to work effectively with a wide range of constituents with diverse backgrounds
  • Ability to manage, motivate, engage, and evaluate students
