The VRC is an innovative research organization that integrates interdisciplinary collaborative research teams from the Departments of Ophthalmology and Biomedical Sciences at the School of Medicine, as well as faculty from the School of Pharmacy. The teams ­through strong interaction between basic, translational and clinical researchers ­bring discoveries in vision research, disease pathogenesis, and breakthroughs in drug target discovery and therapeutic drug development to patients and their communities.

Job Description

The Vision Research Center of the School of Medicine seeks a ranked Assistant or Associate Research Professor. This non-tenure track position is an integral member of the vision research team. Job duties and responsibilities include:
  • Provide oversight of and maintain the Biological Mass Spectrometry and Proteomics Core Facility including the proteomics and mass spectrometry and ancillary equipment, order routine supplies, prepare technical reports and archive data
  • Train students, staff and faculty in proteomics and mass spectrometry techniques including data analysis
  • Conduct/facilitate research in the field of proteomics and mass spectrometry, contribute to grant applications and fundraising to maintain/expand the core facility and its equipment
  • Conduct collaborative research in the field of proteomics and mass spectrometry with a focus on ocular cell biology as part of NIH- and otherwise funded research projects
    • This involves preparing biological and other specimens for testing and to acquire, analyze and publish related data
  • Collaborate with other investigators in the UMKC Vision Research Center, who are focused on degenerative diseases affecting the eye and/or the retina, on ongoing research projects and contributing to publications as needed
  • Provide service to the School of Medicine and/or the university as appropriate
Qualifications
  • PhD in a field of science relative to research in Mass Spectrometry and Proteomics i.e, biochemistry, analytical chemistry
  • Deep knowledge of protein quantitation approaches (DIA) applied to research and clinical applications
  • At least 2 years experience working in a Biological Mass Spectrometry and Proteomics Core Facility with the ability to maintain and troubleshoot proteomics and mass spectrometry equipment
  • Extensive experience in sample preparation, LC-MS operation, troubleshooting, QC, and standardization for proteomics workflows
  • Good understanding of global proteomics, strong theoretical understanding of targeted quantitative proteomics and bioinformatic methods to interpret and validate findings
Anticipated Hiring Range

Salary is negotiable and commensurate with experience, rank and credentials.
