Ample opportunities for additional summer teaching and research mentoring are available.

Required Qualifications:

●            Coursework or programming experience using R Statistical Software.

Desired Qualifications: Candidates will receive preferred consideration for:

●            Academic qualifications and previous relevant experience beyond the minimum listed above;

●            Demonstrated potential for and evidence of excellence in teaching college-level statistics,

●            Ability to teach a variety of relevant statistics courses (including mid-level inference courses and upper-level courses) and related areas (including data science, actuarial science, mathematics, computer science, and related interdisciplinary fields such as environmental science, biostatistics, or applied analytics);

●            Skill and background with modern statistical software (including R) and other modern software tools;

●            Ability to advise students and mentor undergraduate and master's level research projects;

●            Evidence of potential for research activity consistent with the teacher-scholar model;

●            Evidence of strong oral, writing, and interpersonal skills; and

●            Ability to support Truman’s liberal arts and sciences mission inside and outside of the department, including an understanding of how statistics and data science students consider communication, ethics, and their broader impact on society.

Salary and Benefits: Starting annual salary is $61,000. Truman offers a benefits package including life, health, and disability insurance, and partial reimbursement for moving expenses.

Program: The Department of Statistics and Data Science at Truman State University has, in addition to an undergraduate statistics major with concentrations in classical statistics and data science, recently launched an online Professional Masters Degree in Data Science and Analytic Storytelling and an undergraduate certificate in data science. The department has 10 full-time faculty members with a variety of specialties who support our programs and campus-wide needs with over 50 sections of undergraduate statistics and data science courses and 20 sections of graduate statistics and data science courses annually. We also offer minors in Statistics and in Data Science and actively support an Actuarial Science minor and other statistically-related majors, minors, and certificates across campus, including interdisciplinary areas such as business analytics, environmental science, and health. We also  continue to consider additional programs that naturally grow out of our existing statistics and data science offerings, including a pending proposal for a stand-alone undergraduate degree in data science as well as increased offerings in actuarial science and additional graduate programs. More information about the department can be found at http://stat.truman.edu.

Completed applications must include a letter of application that clearly addresses the qualifications and evaluative criteria listed above; a statement of teaching philosophy; a statement of research interests and philosophy; current curriculum vitae; three letters of recommendation; and official or unofficial undergraduate and graduate college transcripts.
