Position Summary: Washburn University’s Department of Education invites applications for a Lecturer in Education to begin August 1, 2023. This is a full-time 9-month position and is a one-year appointment only.

The selected candidate for this position will have a demonstrated commitment to pursuing teaching excellence at Washburn University, including a dedication to developing inclusive teaching practices that engage students from diverse backgrounds. Class sizes at Washburn are small, and students and faculty have the opportunity to participate in community-engaged learning.

Essential Functions:
• Fulfill expectations for teaching and supervision (12 credit hours per semester).
• Teach and develop courses consistent with needs of the Department of Education.
• Fulfill expectations to the Department of Education, School of Applied Studies, University, and the profession (including, but not limited to, committee work, maintaining regular office hours, and meaningful participation in department-sponsored educational events).

Required Qualifications:
• Master’s degree in Education or related field.

• Expertise with diversity/equity/inclusion-based models of teaching
• Experience working with students and/or staff in PreK-6, PreK-12, 6-12, or post-secondary settings
• Proven ability to teach courses in two or more areas (including, but not limited to, educational foundations, STEM education, educational psychology, special education, literacy education, educational technology, social studies education, multi-cultural education)
• Demonstrated commitment to developing inclusive teaching practices that engage students from diverse backgrounds

Preferred Qualifications:
• Earned doctorate in Education or a closely related field
• Experience supervising pre-service teacher candidates and/or practicum students in field placements
• Evidence of successful collaboration with colleagues to develop and deliver coursework
• Evidence of successful co-teaching including co-planning, co-development of integrated content, co-assessment, co-evaluation procedures, and/or conferencing with students
• Experience teaching in hybrid, in-person, or online environments at a post-secondary institution
• Evidence of successful collaboration with pre-k, elementary, middle, and/or secondary faculty and staff within the school setting
• Experience working with school-university partnerships (such as PDS partnerships)
