Job Description

Designer to assist in promoting UMSL visually through print, digital and web. This role is critical in highlighting UMSL’s excellence and telling the story of the region’s premiere public research university. It's an exciting time to be at UMSL with our 60th anniversary approaching, a $100 million investment to transform our campus footprint, and a new enrollment brand coming to life. We want to creatively showcase the students, faculty, staff and alumni who make UMSL such a vibrant community.

We’re looking for a creative thinker, talented designer and explorer of new ideas. As a member of the Marketing and Communications team, you will report to the Director of Creative Services and work with the rest of the creative services team including other designers and a copywriter, as well as our staff photographer, PR and content team, web and digital team. While this designer will work closely with a number of internal clients across divisions, they will have a focus on working with University Advancement, Executive Events, and Enrollment Management to better align the UMSL brand and increase UMSL's visibility to support strategic priorities.

You should be able to:
  • Proficiently design in Adobe Photoshop, Illustrator, and InDesign on a Mac platform
  • Design amazing print and digital marketing materials including view books, billboards, digital ads and other marketing materials
  • Work closely with University Advancement on campaign branding and marketing materials for fundraising priorities, which includes Executive Events
  • Work closely with the Office of Enrollment Management to create recruitment marketing materials
  • Work in Microsoft Word, Excel, Outlook and PowerPoint
  • Art direct photography shoots
  • Provide image retouching, clipping paths, and additional image manipulation
  • Develop and express complex messages clearly and concisely
  • Prepare final press-ready files based on supplied specifications for several types of printing
  • Make various formats of supplied artwork production-ready and resolve any artwork issues that arise during production
  • Juggle multiple projects for multiple clients while meeting deadlines
  • Present and explain ideas to internal teams and clients
  • Take and understand creative direction
  • Respond positively to feedback from clients and the creative team
Additional preferred skills:
  • Experience working for or with a public or private university or college
  • Experience in design work that supports fundraising campaigns and/or enrollment marketing for higher education institutions
  • Creative photography
  • Motion graphics capabilities
  • Video editing

Shift

8 am to 5 pm, some evenings and weekends when needed.

Salary

Pay commensurate with education and experience.
Hiring Range: $48,900-$58,815 Annually
Grade: GGS-10
University Title: Senior Strategic Communications Associate

Minimum Qualifications

A Bachelor's degree or an equivalent combination of education and experience and at least 3 years of experience from which comparable knowledge and skills can be acquired is necessary

Preferred Qualifications
  • Bachelor’s degree in graphic design, visual communications or comparable major.
  • Must have proficiency in Adobe Creative Suite programs and experience working on a Mac platform.
  • Experience with motion design and/or video editing is a plus.
