Duties and Responsibilities of Athletics Communications Assistant
  • Serve as assistant storyteller for Purdue Northwest athletics through the creation, production, and distribution of news releases, graphics, video and photos on the web and social media.
  • Showcase a passion for and recognition of cutting-edge technology and communications trends, including industry standards in social media, public relations, graphic design, video editing and storytelling.
  • Serve as assistant editor of PNWathletics.com. Assist with the department website and produce highlight and promotional videos to build brand awareness and showcase student athlete excellence. Assist with the direction of the department’s social media presence across multiple platforms to maximize potential reach.
  • Assist with the relationship with JEDTV and assist with the production of athletics e-publications, including recruiting brochures, newsletters, game programs and special event promotions.
  • Execute a first-class experience for participants at PNW events including advanced promotion, on-site communication, post-event coverage and other duties as needed.
  • Assist with an effective sports information presence at games. Compile statistics, run gameday operations, and file regular reports as required by the NCAA and GLIAC.
  • Assist with the planning and execution of special programs and content such as the Fall Sports Festival, annual Golf Tournaments, Hall of Fame, Annual Banquet, and Senior Student-Athlete Recognition.
  • Assist with the supervision, training, and development of student assistants.
  • Perform other related duties as assigned by the Assistant Athletic Director for Communications.

Education of Athletics Communications Assistant
  • Bachelor’s degree required
Experience of Athletics Communications Assistant
  • 1 year experience in the athletic communications, journalism, sports information or related field.
Core Competencies of Athletics Communications Assistant
  • Ability to work with limited direction and supervision.
  • Ability to speak in public places, excellent organizational, interpersonal, writing and communication skills.
  • Ability to work in a fast-paced and dynamic environment and willing to work select nights and weekends.
  • Working knowledge of select programs including Adobe Creative Suite (e.g., InDesign, Photoshop, Premiere, After Effects) and Microsoft Office, Excel, and Powerpoint.
