Carthage College seeks an Assistant Director of Strategic Communications to work in conjunction with the Director of Strategic Communications. Responsibilities will include but are not limited to collaborating with coaches, student-athletes, and staff to promote messages about Carthage sports programs and events. This position will work creatively to create concept strategies for storytelling related to Carthage Athletics, including writing, social media, photo, and video. The position will begin in July 2023.

Responsibilities include, but are not limited to:
  • Assist in sports marketing and in-game promotion initiatives aimed at increasing fan attendance
  • Social media maintenance
  • Graphical and video production
  • Assisting with the maintenance of Carthageathletics.com
  • Writing press releases
  • Providing in-game live statistics for home events and collecting statistics for and reporting on away contests.
  • Supervise student worker staff, including Strategic Communication Department interns
  • Submit nominations and oversees the promotion of student-athletes and coaches for awards, including weekly conference honors, sport-specific awards, NCAA-wide distinctions, and others.
  • Execute a wide range of design projects across multiple platforms.
Qualifications:
  • Bachelor’s Degree in a related field such as Journalism, Writing, Sports Management or related discipline.
  • Experience in communications, media relations, or public relations in collegiate or professional sports environment or a related field is also preferred.
  • Previous experience with Stat Crew and/or Genius statistical software is preferred.
  • Proficient in Adobe Creative Suite—After Effects, Illustrator, InDesign and Photoshop.
  • Knowledge of current social and digital media trends.
  • Excellent verbal, written, and visual communication skills.
  • Demonstrated ability to successfully work independently and as part of a team.
