The Associate Dean is responsible for various issues and activities that relate to and are supportive of the college’s teaching and research endeavors, the coordination of class schedules, meeting with faculty and students to assist in the review and resolution of course and classroom issues, attending to the daily business of the college, representing the college and the dean’s office on various campus wide committees, and such duties as the dean considers appropriate. Under the direction of the Dean of the College of Health Sciences, the Associate Dean will provide leadership and administrative support and will work collaboratively with the department chairs and the faculty of the college. This is a full-time, 12-month position. The Associate Dean will report to the Dean, College of Health Sciences.

Minimum Training and Experience Requirements:  Associate Dean of College of Health Sciences must have an earned doctorate in one of the college’s disciplines or a related discipline. The successful candidate must have 5 years administrative experience in higher education, preferably including service as a department chair. S/he must be committed to the principles of shared governance. Candidates should have experience with and commitment to accreditation in areas related to the departments within the college; ability to work in a collaborative and collegial fashion with various college constituencies; and demonstrated interest in academic program building and interprofessional studies.

Management Preferences:  

Associate Dean of College of Health Sciences must have an earned doctorate in one of the college’s disciplines or a related discipline. The successful candidate must have 5 years of progressive administrative experience in higher education, including service as a program director, department chair, and or associate dean. S/he must be committed to the principles of shared governance. Candidates should have experience with and commitment to accreditation in areas related to the departments and schools within the college; ability to work in a collaborative and collegial fashion with various college constituencies; and demonstrated interest in academic program building and interprofessional studies. In addition, the ideal candidate will be:

  • Committed to promoting diversity among faculty, staff, and students;
  • A committed teacher-scholar with a deep understanding of and respect for the University’s commitment to shared governance;
  • A mentor with experience enhancing research and scholarly productivity among faculty;
  • A partnership builder, experienced working with external stakeholders, which may have included alumni, donors, industry, government, and community partners;
  • An eloquent advocate for College of Health Sciences who will be able to articulate the strengths of each program offered within the College of Health Sciences;
  • An evidence-driven planner with experience in quantitative analysis, assessment, and outcomes measurements, as well as accreditation efforts; and
  • A trustworthy individual with a strong moral compass.
