Department Information

Indiana University seeks an associate vice president to lead University Enrollment Services (UES), a division in the university-wide Office of the Vice President for Student Success (OVPSS). The OVPSS portfolio is both the strategic home for student success initiatives, as well as a collaborative partner for campus-based student success teams. Our staff of 80+ student-focused staff are dedicated to our purpose of helping every Indiana University to thrive.

UES supports the academic and student services missions of Indiana University by providing strategic leadership in partnership with campus enrollment leaders, to implement major student enrollment projects and initiatives impacting all IU campuses. UES coordinates and manages shared services operations in admissions, transfer operations, financial aid, student records, student demographics, access administration, and veteran’s affairs, all with a focus on student success. 

UES delivers student services through an innovative, multi-campus shared services model that integrates admissions, financial aid, student records, transfer, and veteran services that centers the student experience, enhances customer service, implements best practices, and reduces operating costs across the university. In addition, UES performs university-wide operations in information security, data administration, operational support, reporting, internal controls, academic policy implementation, and compliance. The office works with all IU campuses on prioritizing student related technology development requests and collaborates with the Office of the Vice president for Information Technology (OVPIT) to implement them.

 

Job Summary

  • Serves as a key member of the Office of the Vice President for Student Success Leadership team, leads the university-wide enrollment council, and leads/serves on other critical university-wide committees, task forces, and focus groups.
  • Coordinates university-wide key enrollment initiatives and projects by implementing processes driven by industry best practices. Establishes and sustains a strategic, collaborative, and proactive vision to assist the university with current enrollment efforts. Works with campus leadership on initiatives to better serve students.
  • Leads the university's student systems functional support to ensure the integrity of the data and that operations and information needs are met in an efficient manner. Establishes overall program objectives/goals; identifies and documents standard procedures, performance objectives, timelines, and decision criteria; and specialized applications so that functional departments can carry out their administrative roles more effectively.
  • Partners with the campuses to prioritize technology development needed for student service, efficiency, and compliance. Establishes and maintains communication with all campus constituencies regarding student information systems and the services provided. Works in collaboration with University Information Technology Services (UITS) on the development, implementation, and evaluation of current and new student service applications.
  • Oversees professional staff team focused on functional systems and processes in the student information system (SIS) in the areas of admissions, transfer operations, financial aid, student records, and veteran’s affairs with a focus on shared services across all IU campuses. Manages other student systems that provide operational support to the campuses. Leads process review, compliance and other outcomes while remaining focused on operational efficiencies.
  • Works closely with the campus offices to assist with development and refinement of processes, information, guidance, training, and other resources to avoid roadblocks for students.
  • Other duties as assigned.

 

Qualifications   

EDUCATION

Required

  • Master’s degree in higher education, management, leadership, business administration, or applicable field or enrollment management work.

WORK EXPERIENCE

Required

  • 7 years of successful director-level leadership (or its equivalent) in one or more of the following areas: Admissions, Student Records, or Financial Aid.

Preferred

  • 10 years of experience at the director level in admission, financial aid, or university records.
  • Direct and demonstrated experience with leadership in change management.
  • Experience in an executive leadership role within a complex, decentralized university or university system in an enrollment management area.
  • Successful history of staff recruitment, development, and team building; including a demonstrated commitment to building and supporting a richly diverse staff.
  • Experience in a leadership role in state, regional, or national organization related to a field within enrollment management.

Combinations of related education and experience may be considered.

SKILLS

Required

  • Comprehensive understanding of student services to lead business process review sessions and determine how and when processes should be standardized, centralized, or decentralized.
  • Strong student systems experience at a large university.
  • Demonstrated leadership abilities and effective communication skills. Candidate must be adept at interpersonal issues, negotiation, problem-solving, and team building.
  • Participation in state and national organizations, demonstrating significant research, analytical and presentation experience.

Preferred

  • Direct experience with PeopleSoft student information system.

 

Working Conditions / Demands

This role requires the ability to effectively communicate and to operate a computer and other standard office productivity equipment. The position involves sedentary work as well as periods of time moving around an office environment and the campus. The person in this role must be able to perform the essential functions with or without an accommodation.

 

Work Location

This position will be in-person based on our Bloomington, Indiana and our Indianapolis, Indiana campuses. The person selected for this role will have the flexibility to choose which work location will be their primary work location, with the expectation of splitting their time between the two campuses. Therefore, this position will have a 3-day / 2-day split between Bloomington and Indianapolis, with occasional travel to regional campuses as needed.

 

Advertised Salary

The anticipated salary range for this position is $180,000-$205,000, commensurate with experience.
