This is an in-person on campus, non-remote position. For the 2022-2023 academic year, the University has implemented a pilot program allowing employees to work either a compressed 4-day work week with extended workdays or may work from home one day a week. Participation is subject to Divisional Executive approval depending on operational need.

Brief Job Overview/Summary

Stockton University in New Jersey seeks applications for a full-time Non-Tenure Track Teaching faculty member in Writing and First-Year Studies. This position begins September 1st, 2023 and is a one-year appointment as a sabbatical replacement. The successful candidate will join core faculty housed in the School of General Studies in teaching first-year writing courses, including especially our course for students who may benefit from extra support, as part of an innovative, University-wide First-Year Studies program. Our program’s new outcomes focus on developing rhetorical knowledge and practice, developing and engaging in a writing process, and engaging in a research process. Successful candidates can also teach other courses for our interdisciplinary writing minor. Successful candidates may also have the opportunity to teach interdisciplinary general education courses in the university-wide curriculum.

Descriptions of Essential Duties/Responsibilities:

  • Offer FRST 1101, College Writing, a core writing course, and other courses including potentially for the writing minor or in the interdisciplinary General Studies curriculum
  • Teach four courses per semester
  • Provide service to the University, community and/or profession
  • Perform other duties as may be assigned by the Dean of General Studies and/or the Provost and Vice President for Academic Affairs
  • Support Stockton University’s diversity commitment and strong student-centered vision and mission

Required Qualifications

  • MA or MFA degree in relevant discipline (e.g., composition/rhetoric/argument, historical/literary/cultural studies, creative writing, philosophy, communications, etc.)
  • Relevant experience teaching writing to first-year college students or similar populations

Preferred Qualifications:

  • Experience and/or interest in teaching underserved populations, or through anti-racist/social justice-oriented pedagogies
